Amazon cargo jet pilot miraculously escapes fiery crash that left 5 dead at Miami airport

One of the pilots involved in the deadly Amazon cargo jet crash had jumped out of the burning plane just moments after it landed at the Miami International Airport, wild video shows.

Harrowing footage from Sunday’s crash showed the pilot struggling to get out of the downed plane as it lay burning on the airport runway, NBC Miami reported. 

The pilot drops to the ground and quickly hobbles away as spectators stare in horror at the violent crash.   

Olvin Henriquez, who captured the scene as he passed by with his 4-month-old daughter, said he was stunned at the tragedy that unfolded just a few yards away. 

“It was shocking to witness all of that. Then, unexpectedly, we saw the pilot jump out of the cockpit door and run for his life as the plane rapidly burst into flames,” Henriquez told the outlet. 

“My family and I quickly turned the car around, fearing the plane might explode violently,” he added.

Five people died in the incident, and five others, including the pilots, were injured. 

“The mere thought that, just moments earlier, my entire family could have been dragged along by the plane — as other vehicles and people unfortunately were — is terrifying,” Herniquez said. 

The crash happened at around 2 p.m. Sunday as Prime Air Flight 7598 was landing from Puerto Rico and careened off the runway, plowing into “multiple vehicles” and bursting into flames, officials said.  

It remains unclear why the plane, a Boeing 767 jet, was unable to stop before it ran off the runway. 

“We’re heartbroken to learn that five people lost their lives in today’s incident at Miami International Airport,” an Amazon spokesperson said in a statement. “Our deepest sympathies go out to the families, loved ones, and all those affected by this devastating loss.”
