Furious Wisconsin parent cited for tripping football player, 9, who was running for touchdown

An enraged Wisconsin parent was cited for tripping a 9-year-old football player during a youth league game when he became “upset over a play,” as the child’s coach declared it the “most cowardly act I’ve ever seen.

Shocking footage captured the dad, who was supporting the Milwaukee Colts, taking matters into his own hands when he made the drastic intervention against the Case Eagles in Racine, Wisc., on Saturday, CBS58 reported.

The Eagles football player, wearing No. 88, was rushing to score a touchdown when the rogue adult extended his left leg and tripped the athlete.

The boy and adult both tumbled to the ground as officials halted the game’s play.

Channing Schultz, the Eagles head coach, said the boy was okay but was infuriated by what unfolded on the field.

“I was filled with anger, it was disgusting,” he told CBS. “It was the most cowardly act I’ve ever seen. For him to just do it with so much intent and he was committed. No words can fix that at all.”

Mount Pleasant police said the suspect, identified as a 41-year-old man, walked out onto the field when he “became upset over a play.”

He fled the field, but police issued a citation for disorderly conduct after he admitted to his actions during a traffic stop.

Schultz was relieved the boy wasn’t seriously hurt.

“The way he kicked my little guy. His leg could’ve broke. His shin could’ve broke,” the coach told WISN.

Other parents who attended the game were left horrified at what happened.

“There is fear playing a game like that and with youth sports, it should be fun. It shouldn’t be fearful at all,” one woman told WISN.

The man has been banned from attending games for the “remainder of the season,” an official for the Colts team confirmed to CBS, but Schultz called for a lifetime ban.

Mount Pleasant police have not identified the suspect, which left social media users bewildered after they believed the penalty was lenient. 

“He assaulted a child you should at least refer up charges to the DA for battery, attempted battery, reckless endangering safety. This is a weak charge, more should be done,” one user wrote under the police’s press release post.

“It’s disgusting what this country is coming to. How do we expect anything better from children,” another said.

“A grown man against a 9 year old?! The way that went down it’s lucky the kid didn’t have a spine injury! This guy needs assault charges filed and a permanent record!” a third horrified viewer penned.

A furious Facebook user said the parent “needs to pay the price” for his actions.

“This is absolutely abhorrent, ridiculous and not OK,” she raged. “We will find out who you are. You’re a disgrace and embarrassment.”
