Lindsay Clancy trial live updates: Mom meticulously tracked psych meds and her mood before murders of her 3 kids

Lawyers on both sides have finished questioning Patrick Clancy and the jury has been dismissed for the day.

Trial is scheduled to resume at 9 a.m. Thursday morning.

Kevin Reddington dramatically slammed empty pill bottles recovered from Lindsay Clancy’s nightstand as the defense attorney questioned Clancy’s ex-husband.

Reddington placed the bottles for six different medications she was taking leading up to the time prosecutors say she killed her three kids. All the drugs were prescribed to her in either December 2022 or January 2023.

The children were fatally strangled on Jan. 24, 2023.

“Those were in this drawer and they were all empty, right?” Reddington asked.

“Right,” Patrick responded.

When testimony began Monday, the prosecution also displayed several of Lindsay Clancy’s pill bottles, probing Patrick about whether he knew for sure that she was taking them, and if he knew the dosage.

He said he did not.

Lindsay Clancy meticulously wrote out the dosage of medications she took each day and her corresponding mental health state, according to a journal page shown to jurors.

For example on Dec. 8, 2022, she wrote that she took 5 mg of Valium along with 75 mg of Seroquel and that she “slept well 9-5 few wake ups feeling very depressed & intrusive thoughts today.”

The next day she wrote that she took 5 mg of Valium and 100 mg of Seroquel and “slept well horrible intrusive thoughts.”

Every entry on that page of her diary documented her mental health struggles that month.

The page was shown as Lindsay Clancy’s lawyer, Kevin Reddington, questioned her ex-husband Patrick Clancy at the trial in which she is accused of killing their three young kids.

Reddington is asking the jury to find her not guilty by reason of insanity on the grounds she was in the throes of severe postpartum psychosis caused partly because of all the prescription drugs she was on.

Lindsay Clancy had severe insomnia that began after she was prescribed the popular antidepressant Zoloft, her former husband, Patrick Clancy, testified.

Patrick — who was married to Lindsay at the time she’s accused of killing their three kids on Jan. 24, 2023 — said her lack of sleep was a “huge problem.”

“It was hard [for her] to function,” Patrick said. “I just wanted her to get sleep and feel better.”

He recalled accompanying Lindsay to a doctor’s appointment in early December 2022, one month before the murders, and described her as “extremely sleep deprived and highly anxious” at that time.

Patrick would sometimes see Lindsay rocking back and forth on the couch with her head on a pillow, he said.

Insomnia is a common side effect of Zoloft (generic name sertraline), according to the National Alliance on Mental Illness.

Thoughts of suicide — which Patrick on Monday said Lindsay told him she had in the months just before the murders — are listed by the Cleveland Clinic as a possible side effect of Zoloft as well.

Lindsay Clancy had a book titled “Good Moms Have Scary Thoughts” in a cabinet in her Duxbury, Mass., kitchen along with other books, her attorney Kevin Reddington told jurors while questioning her ex.

The 35-year-old’s ex-husband, Patrick Clancy — who was married to her at the time of the murders of their three kids — said he didn’t “recall” ever seeing the book.

Photos of the book were shown to the jury.

Jurors were shown a series of blown-up images of Lindsay Clancy’s cheerful kids that she posted to social media.

Several of the posts from 2021 and 2022 were shown to a somber Patrick as he confirmed who was in each of the images.

That’s “us with Cora and Dawson,” Patrick said of a post from July 2021 of his two oldest children.

Lindsay Clancy’s ex-husband, Patrick Clancy, testified she was a “very dedicated” mother to their three children — whom she is accused of killing.

“She was very dedicated. She did everything,” testified Patrick, who was married to her at the time of the murders but has since remarried. “She started reading them books at 3 months. She made up songs for them. She used to make green eggs and ham for Cora because she liked that [Dr. Seuss] book.”

The jury was then shown photos of collages on the walls of the kids’ room, including big stickers of characters from “Paw Patrol.”

At one point Lindsay’s lawyer, Kevin Reddington, asked Patrick about Lindsay’s feelings toward their middle child, Dawson, who was 3 when he was killed.

“She loved Dawson very much,” Patrick said.

“Did she resent him?” Reddington asked.

“No,” Patrick answered.

The testimony came after a lunch break that was more than two hours long.

Patrick first testified on Monday and took the stand again Wednesday morning for prosecutors’ questioning.

A Plymouth fire truck showed up to court with EMTs getting escorted to the District Attorney’s office inside Plymouth Superior Court in Massachusetts during the same time court was paused for over an hour, according to a report by CBS News.

It wasn’t clear what emergency the paramedics were responding to.

Just before, Lindsay Clancy sobbed at the defense table as the horrific 911 call of her then-husband finding their children strangled in the basement of their home on Jan. 24, 2023, was played as evidence.

After the call was finished being played for the jury, Clancy was escorted out of the courtroom and trial went on the extended recess. This was around the same time first responders showed up to the courthouse.

Patrick Clancy, father of Lindsay Clancy’s three murdered children and her ex-husband, is set to resume testifying when court returns from lunch around 2 p.m., according to a report by CBS News.

Prosecutors wrapped up their questioning of Lindsay Clancy’s former husband earlier today, but Judge William Sullivan told the jury he might be recalled later in the day.

Judge William Sullivan just dismissed the jury for a two-hour lunch break following brief testimony from two witnesses.

Court is scheduled to resume at 2:00 p.m.

A restaurant hostess testified about how Lindsay Clancy called to place a take-out order just before she killed her three kids.

Lindsay called restaurant ThreeV at 5:10 p.m. and ordered risotto and a Mediterranean power bowl, Saria Sweeney Shelgren testified.

She said the phone call was totally normal.

Then Patrick Clancy entered the Plymouth restaurant at 5:54 to pick up the order, Sweeney said as surveillance video of the interaction was shown to the jury.

Patrick would return home shortly after to find Lindsay threw herself out of their bedroom window in a failed suicide attempt after she allegedly strangled their three young kids with exercise bands.
