LeBron James breaks silence on his departure from Los Angeles Lakers

LeBron James just broke his silence on his breakup with the Lakers.

In a post on X, James kept things short, sweet and cordial, thanking Los Angeles for the last eight years with a three-sentence statement.

“No, THANK YOU!” He wrote in response to the Lakers wishing him well at his next destination.

“Truly a honor to wear the [purple and gold] while trying to continuing the greatness & legacies that came before me! Hope I made a few proud during my stint. ”

James informed the Lakers this week he’ll be moving on to another team in 2026, and on Tuesday morning, his agent, Rich Paul, informed media members of his star client’s decision.

Los Angeles made it clear right away it had no hard feelings toward the 22-time All-Star, when Jeanie Buss called him “one of the greatest athletes in history” while confirming the news of his departure.

“We will always be thankful for his eight years with the Lakers — including the title he led us to in 2020 under the toughest imaginable circumstances and the countless records he broke in purple and gold,” Buss said in a statement.

“We wish him all the best in the future, both on the court and off,” Buss added. “He will always be a cherished part of the Lakers family.”

James came to Los Angeles as a free agent in 2018 and made an All-Star team in each of his ensuing eight seasons in the purple and gold.

He won one championship while averaging 26.9 points, 7.7 rebounds and 7.9 assists per game.

James has yet to make a choice on his next landing spot, though the Warriors, Heat and Cavaliers are widely viewed as his most likely destinations.
