WASHINGTON \u2014\u00a0New Jersey Sen. Cory Booker admitted he\u2019s concerned about scandal-scarred Maine Senate hopeful Graham Platner after it emerged that he sexted several women. <\/p>\n

\u201cYeah, I have concerns. The guy has questions to answer, and that\u2019s what campaigns are for,\u201d Booker (D-NJ) told ABC News\u2019 \u201cThis Week\u201d on Sunday when asked if the controversy could imperil Dem hopes of flipping Maine\u2019s seat. <\/p>\n

Booker declined to discuss the specific controversies dogging Platner ahead of the June 9 primary. Instead, he underscored the stakes of the battle for control of the Senate.<\/p>\n

\u201cI know that so much is riding on Democrats taking control of the Senate,\u201d Booker added. \u201cThat this election, if we do not get the votes necessary to take care of the House and the Senate, we will continue to have an out-of-control president.\u201d<\/p>\n

Maine\u2019s Senate seat, held by incumbent Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine), is widely seen as a must-win for Democrats if they want to retake the upper chamber. <\/p>\n

On Saturday, it emerged that Platner\u2019s wife had tipped off his campaign to a series of sexting messages he made to numerous women during recent years. Platner got married in 2023.<\/p>\n

It was also revealed that Platner had an account on Kik, an encrypted messaging service popular for hookups. His account appears to still be active. <\/p>\n

The horny oyster farmer is believed to have messaged up to a dozen women, though the exact number is disputed, according to reports.<\/p>\n

Booker\u2019s colleague, Sen. Andy Kim (D-NJ), largely sidestepped questions about whether he\u2019s uneasy about Platner. <\/p>\n

\u201cRight now, this information is out there,\u201d Kim told CNN\u2019s \u201cState of the Union\u201d on Sunday. \u201cWith any campaign in the country, the character and the transparency about the different candidates is going to come out. That\u2019s part of the campaign. And the voters will decide.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) similarly evaded questions about Platner, telling CBS News\u2019 \u201cFace the Nation\u201d on Sunday that he hasn\u2019t \u201cfollowed this story as closely.\u201d<\/p>\n

Platner\u2019s wife, Amy Gertner, cut a raw, emotional video addressing the controversy, scolding the media and the campaign\u2019s former political director over the revelations. <\/p>\n

The former Marine is facing a flurry of scandals and controversies. Last year, it was revealed that he had a tattoo\u00a0on his chest\u00a0that resembled a Totenkopf\u00a0or \u201cdeath\u2019s head\u201d\u00a0symbol used by the Nazi SS. <\/p>\n

Platner has denied knowing about its Nazi ties and claimed to have gotten it in Croatia while inebriated in 2007. He has since inked over it with a \u201cCeltic knot with some imagery around dogs.\u201d<\/p>\n

The aspiring senator has also faced revelations about his since-scrubbed Reddit account, including posts about graffiti of men\u2019s genitalia\u00a0he had seen during his world travels, defending soldiers\u00a0urinating on dead Taliban soldiers, arguing that white Americans \u201cactually are\u201d racist and stupid, and calling war \u201cthe most enjoyable experience.\u201d<\/p>\n

Earlier this month, old posts emerged of him\u00a0mocking a Purple Heart soldier\u00a0who captured bonkers helmet footage of himself moving into the open to steer Taliban fire away from his fellow soldiers.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis video never gets old. Dumb mother\u2014er didn\u2019t deserve to live. At least his stupidity and fat ass wheezing are available for all future infantrymen to witness and hold in contempt,\u201d Platner posted on Reddit, years after the footage went viral.<\/p>\n

Platner has a 7.8 percentage point polling edge over Collins,\u00a0according to the latest RealClearPolitics\u00a0aggregate of polls. Notably, Collins dramatically overperformed the RCP aggregate in the race against Democrat Sara Gideon in 2020.<\/p>\n
