DALLAS \u2014 President Trump headlined the Republican Party\u2019s first-ever midterm convention Wednesday night, boasting about his record and offering every American $5,000 if Republicans hold control of Congress in the Nov. 3 election.<\/p>\n

Trump implored listeners to \u201cpretend that I\u2019m on the ballot\u201d so he can \u201cfinish the job\u201d \u2014presenting a stark choice between \u201cradical left communists\u201d and a continuation of his populist agenda.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The president offered Americans a major financial incentive to stick with him in what he called the \u201cbest part\u201d of his energetic barnstorming-style 107-minute speech.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf the Republicans win the House of Representatives and the United States Senate, both of them, because of our tremendous economic success\u2026 I will issue a dividend to every adult citizen in the United States of America for $5,000,\u201d Trump said.<\/p>\n

The concept was \u201cvery much like a successful company will do a cash distribution to its shareholders,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re going to give you that Trump dividend to $5,000 if we win, and we\u2019re going to win.\u201d<\/p>\n

It\u2019s unclear if the idea would pass muster with fiscal conservatives \u2014 as it would add more than $1.2 trillion to the already surging $40 trillion national debt.<\/p>\n

In 2020, then-Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) blocked Trump\u2019s request for $2,000 COVID-19 stimulus checks and made the sum $600 due to fear that printing so much money would devalue the currency.<\/p>\n

President Joe Biden later approved the additional $1,400 \u2014 with critics saying it fueled an inflation crisis, which peaked at an annual rate of 9.1% in June 2022.<\/p>\n

Other Trump-proposed direct payments haven\u2019t been implemented, including plans last year for dividends funded with tariffs and cost savings from the DOGE drive to slash the federal bureaucracy.<\/p>\n

Trump vowed a blizzard of new legislation for Republicans to pass in his final two years in office, including bills to end surprise medical billing, require hospital price transparency, slash fees that credit card companies charge on purchases, end state-level cashless bail policies and apply the death penalty for large-scale drug dealers.<\/p>\n

He said he would continue to push for stalled national voter ID rules, continue to boost domestic energy production, make permanent his new tax cuts on tips, overtime and Social Security payments and pass legislation barring future presidents from returning to more lax Biden-era border policies.<\/p>\n

\u201cYour vote will decide whether our country stumbles at the starting gate of the next 250 years or surges forward and never ever looks back,\u201d Trump told thousands of attendees inside the American Airlines Center, home to the NBA\u2019s Dallas Mavericks.<\/p>\n

He also toyed with renaming New Mexico \u201cNew America\u201d and renaming the Strait of Hormuz after himself.<\/p>\n

\u201cVote Republican and we will leave the world in our dust for generations to come,\u201d Trump said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe hand America\u2019s future to the radical left Democrats, and our nation will spend the next decade just getting back on its feet,\u201d he warned.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m asking you to pretend that I\u2019m on the ballot \u2014 just one more time, because if we lose, you\u2019re going to lose your border, you\u2019re going to lose your tax cuts, you\u2019re going to lose your safety and security, you\u2019re going to lose your wealth.\u201d<\/p>\n

Trump urged voters to consider that the Iran war is dragging on \u2014 harming Republicans with higher inflation and gas prices \u2014 because Tehran is \u201choping that we lose so they can deal with dumb, weak Democrats and they can have their nuclear bomb.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

He predicted the conflict would end shortly after the Nov. 3 vote, causing oil prices to plummet.<\/p>\n

\u2018Sick cloud over our country\u2019<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Trump said he plans to campaign at least once in all states with competitive House and Senate races to defend his agenda \u2014 and dispel the \u201csick cloud\u201d of \u201ccommunism,\u201d especially in the 35 most hotly contested House races.<\/p>\n

He interjected colorful attacks on various Democratic candidates, particularly those in Senate races, including James Talarico in Texas, Abdul El-Sayed in Michigan and Roy Cooper in North Carolina.<\/p>\n

Cooper, he said, should see his support plunge, likening him to 1988 Democratic presidential candidate Michael Dukakis for allowing an \u201canimal\u201d repeat criminal offender to roam free before murdering Iryna Zarutska on public transit last year.<\/p>\n

Playing comedian-in-chief, Trump noted that Talarico once promoted vegetarianism with a campaign called \u201cbeat meat,\u201d humorously adding to laughter, \u201cI don\u2019t know what the hell he meant by that.\u201d<\/p>\n

El-Sayed, he said, was an \u201cextremist\u201d whose sister \u201ccelebrated the terrorist slaughter of babies on October 7th\u201d and whose mother \u201cworked for an organization that gave hundreds of thousands of dollars to people that follow Osama bin Laden.\u201d<\/p>\n

Trump spoke after Republicans cheered on five hours of warm-up acts, including up-and-coming congressional candidates and cabinet secretaries \u2014 competing with the opening night of the NFL season as the New England Patriots faced the Seattle Seahawks in a Super Bowl rematch.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere is a crazy little sick cloud over our country,\u201d Trump said, leaning into the event\u2019s effort to link Democrats writ large with self-declared socialists who won a number of upsets in primary races this year.<\/p>\n

\u201cI really believe it\u2019s not going anywhere, but we have to make sure because we will defeat communism in America and vote for American freedom.\u201d<\/p>\n

He spoke as Republicans court moderate voters and Hispanics, a voting bloc that polls show is drifting after surging support to Trump\u2019s 2024 campaign, which pressed hard on an anti-socialist message and promises to tame inflation and illegal border crossings.<\/p>\n

Fetterman, underwear pic shock attendees<\/h2>\n

The hastily planned \u201cTrump-a-palooza\u201d made good on hints of surprises.<\/p>\n

Sen. John Fetterman (D-Pa.) appeared in a video denouncing \u201cthe extremes and socialism and that anti-American way of life\u201d and praising Sen. Dave McCormick (R-Pa.), as speculation mounts that he will switch parties.<\/p>\n

Jumbo-screens also shockingly showed a half-naked selfie of anti-Israel commentator Hasan Piker \u2014 a close ally of Michigan Democratic Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed. The radical streamer\u2019s tight blue underwear was blurred to obscure the still-visible anatomical contours underneath.<\/p>\n

Justin Gaethje, the UFC fighter who won the headline match at the cage match on the White House lawn in June, appeared minutes ahead of Trump, saying the president \u201ctook the world by storm, similar to my chances on June 14\u201d and praised the \u201cleader who treats every day like I treated my fight that night.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYour next fight is the only one that matters,\u201d he said. \u201cWe have to get out and vote\u2026 We risk getting knocked out.\u201d<\/p>\n

The 21,000-person arena swelled with guests ahead of Trump\u2019s speech, though hundreds of nosebleed seats remained available.<\/p>\n

Trump announced the convention just over two months ago as a gamble to prevent an electoral bloodbath that would imperil his final two years in office. Republicans lost 41 House seats during the midterm election in his first term.<\/p>\n

Democrats have vowed to block Trump\u2019s agenda and investigate and possibly impeach him if they retake control in Congress.<\/p>\n

The event had the feel of a traditional presidential-year convention \u2014 complete with state markers on the floor, zany costumes including many sequin jackets and enthusiastic dancing by party reps on camera to dated hits such as 1984\u2019s \u201cFootloose\u201d by Kenny Loggins.<\/p>\n

Republican leaders who spoke before Trump highlighted major elements of his agenda, with Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent receiving rousing applause before touting private-sector job gains and \u201cTrump accounts\u201d for newborns.<\/p>\n

Medicare and Medicaid chief Dr. Mehmet Oz spoke about Trump\u2019s efforts to lower prescription drug prices, saying \u201cso many of you look like gazelles\u201d due to expanded coverage for GLP-1 weight-loss drugs.<\/p>\n

The event significantly served to raise the profiles of rising Republican stars.<\/p>\n

The first speakers after an opening prayer were a pair of Mexican-American siblings running for House seats in Texas, Rep. Monica De La Cruz, whose district stretches south from San Antonio, and her brother, Carlos De La Cruz, who would rep a neighboring district.<\/p>\n

Former Arizona Cardinals NFL player Jay Feely, who is running for the House in Arizona, and military veteran Mike Bouchard Jr., who is running in Michigan, were given prime slots.<\/p>\n

House Majority Whip Tom Emmer (R-Minn.) told attendees the election was \u201cbetween common sense and communism, between America-loving patriots and hate-America extremists.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Communist Party, oh excuse me, the Democrats have no leader,\u201d Emmer jabbed. \u201cThe only thing they can agree on is their disgusting hatred of America.\u201d<\/p>\n
