The wife of Chicago Bears legend Matt Suhey was the one who alerted authorities to his passing over the weekend, new police documents obtained by The California Post on Wednesday revealed.<\/p>\n

A Deerfield Police Department case report stated that officers were called to Suhey\u2019s residence in Deerfield, Ill. at around 2:07 p.m. on Sunday after the Super Bowl champion had been found unresponsive.<\/p>\n

Donna Suhey, Matt\u2019s wife of 38 years, directed at least one officer through a garage to an upstairs bedroom where the ex-NFL fullback was discovered with no pulse, the documents stated.<\/p>\n

Further authorities arrived at the scene and pronounced the 68-year-old deceased at 2:21 p.m., according to the report.<\/p>\n

Police wrote in the report that Donna, during their investigation of the scene, had shared with them the daily medication her husband had been taking.<\/p>\n

\u201cDue to no suspicious circumstances,\u201d the report stated, \u201cthe death investigation will be closed.\u201d<\/p>\n

A Lake County Coroner\u2019s Office spokesperson told The Post on Tuesday a preliminary probe into the death \u201cindicated that Mr. Suhey had a significant medical history and was being treated by a primary care physician.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cTherefore,\u201d the rep added, \u201cour investigation was limited, and the PCP will be completing the\u00a0death\u00a0certificate for him, as it will be\u00a0Natural Causes.\u201d<\/p>\n

Matt, a second-round pick in the 1980 NFL Draft, played for the Bears for the entirety of his 10-year NFL career.<\/p>\n

While paving the way for Walter Payton, the tailback recorded over 5,000 total yards from scrimmage and scored 25 touchdowns. He also helped the famous 1985 Bears beat the Patriots in Super Bowl XX.<\/p>\n

Matt carried those same qualities off the field, as well. A beloved teammate and treasured friend, Suhey passionately strove to remain connected with the Bears and his teammates long after his playing career, including as a mainstay at Bears Alumni events.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jarrett Payton, Walter\u2019s son, also called Matt \u201cmy dad\u2019s closest friend\u201d in an emotional social media post this week.<\/p>\n

\u201cAfter we lost my dad in 1999, Matt became the biggest father figure I had,\u201d Jarrett said. \u201cWhen everything felt uncertain, he was there. My dad left him in charge and Matt never let that responsibility sit lightly. He protected our family. He looked after us. He made sure we were okay, year after year, without ever making it about himself.<\/p>\n
