{"id":8432,"date":"2026-09-08T23:08:12","date_gmt":"2026-09-08T23:08:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/metrotransitreview.com\/?p=8432"},"modified":"2026-09-08T23:08:12","modified_gmt":"2026-09-08T23:08:12","slug":"macklemore-accused-of-blatant-hypocrisy-after-anti-israel-tirade-as-secrets-about-his-home-revealed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/metrotransitreview.com\/?p=8432","title":{"rendered":"Macklemore accused of blatant hypocrisy after anti-Israel tirade \u2014 as secrets about his home revealed"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p>The rapper, famous for bragging about \u201cpopping tags\u201d on his famed \u201cThrift Shop\u201d tune, is living on stolen native lands after he hijacked the spotlight at an Ed Sheeran concert with an anti-Israel rant.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/metrotransitreview.com\/?p=8430\">US hits Iranian oil tankers near Kharg Island to turn the screws on Tehran: report<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Macklemore, whose real name is Benjamin Hammond Haggerty, proudly called to \u201cFree Palestine\u201d and accused Israel of committing genocide at a New Jersey Meadowlands show last week.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI wanted to stand up here on stages across America and say two words that are near and dear to my heart: Free Palestine,\u201d the Grammy-winning rapper said as he wore a keffiyeh draped over his shoulders.<\/p>\n<p>While he made the statements, his multimillion-dollar Seattle abode sat on stolen Native American land.<\/p>\n<p>Haggerty owns a three-bedroom, 2.25-bathroom home in Seattle\u2019s North Capitol Hill neighborhood and has lived there for more than a decade. <\/p>\n<p>The North Capitol Hill neighborhood, like the rest of Seattle, is part of historic ancestral lands of native people. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe acknowledge that the city of Seattle and its greenspaces are on stolen Coast Salish land, specifically the ancestral land of the Duwamish, Suquamish, Stillaguamish, and Muckleshoot People,\u201d a land acknowledgement from the Green Seattle Partnership says.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe recognize the stewardship of Seattle\u2019s greenspaces by the Coast Salish people since time immemorial, the disruption of this work by colonization, and now endeavor to continue this work,\u201d it added.<\/p>\n<p>The artist has acknowledged his role in owning a home on stolen land. He\u2019s also known for doing land acknowledgements before his concerts.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m from Seattle, Washington, occupied Duwamish territory,\u201d he said in a May 2024 LANDBACK FOR THE PEOPLE podcast episode.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/metrotransitreview.com\/?p=8428\">Exclusive | Jimmy Kimmel\u2019s late night show set to end after next season after 24 years<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The artist spouted an anti-Israel sentiment during his recent show with Sheeran in New Jersey, and the Israeli-American Council\u00a0started a petition Sunday\u00a0calling for\u00a0Sheeran to drop the \u201cThrift Shop\u201d singer from the remainder of his tour, accusing the rapper of spreading antisemitic propaganda.<\/p>\n<p>The rapper also performed his song, \u201cHindi\u2019s Hall,\u201d a reference to the\u00a0pro-Palestine protests at the Columbia University campus, while images from Gaza were played on giant screens.<\/p>\n<p>Fellow artists PINK and Boy George have criticized Macklemore for his anti-Israel statements.<\/p>\n<p>PINK reposted a StopAntisemitism post that called for all concertgoers to be refunded and said they are \u201cowed apologies.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Culture Club singer Boy George made a much longer condemnation of Macklemore. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cOn the subject of @macklemore it\u2019s important to note that slogans such as \u2018Free Palestine\u2019 offer the appearance of moral courage without requiring much political knowledge. @edsheeran clearly has no spine and as for @Palomafaith and her stupid virtuous squealing of delight about Mackle-bore when she is about as political as a soggy tuna sandwich. The whole thing makes me queasy,\u201d he wrote on X.<\/p>\n<p>Macklemore said Monday that his rant was not a criticism of Jewish people.<\/p>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cTo all of my Jewish brothers and sisters: Criticism of Israel, criticism of apartheid, being against genocide, is in no way a criticism of you,\u201d he said in a video posted to social media.<\/p>\n<p>The \u201cCan\u2019t Hold Us\u201d singer isn\u2019t the only artist facing backlash over \u201cstolen land\u201d rhetoric.<\/p>\n<p>Billie Eilish landed herself in hot water after declaring at the Grammys, \u201cNo one is illegal on stolen land.\u201d Critics mocked the multimillionaire singer, with one urging her to \u201chand over the keys\u201d to her Los Angeles property.
