An armed man lunged at Ohio\u2019s Democratic gubernatorial nominee, Dr. Amy Acton, at a local fair on Sunday \u2014 injuring two people in the chaos before he was quickly arrested, according to authorities.<\/p>\n

The intruder, identified by local outlets as Patrick Havas, \u201clunged\u201d toward Acton while she was visiting the annual Canfield Fair in Mahoning County, according to Addie Bullock, a communications director for the Acton campaign.<\/p>\n

\u201cDr. Acton and Eric are grateful for the swift and decisive action of law enforcement and are praying for the recovery of those injured. This kind of violence has no place in Ohio. Dr. Acton will always stand up to the chaos, hate, and vitriol that pits us against one another,\u201d\u00a0Bullock said in a statement.<\/p>\n

Havas, 38, busted into the Mahoning County Democratic Party\u00a0tent and pushed his way to the front, knocking multiple volunteers to the ground in the process, Mahoning County Democratic Party Chair Chris Anderson wrote in a statement on social media. <\/p>\n

Mahoning County Sheriff Jerry Greene told 21 News that the Havas \u2014 who was holding a phone camera and carrying two concealed firearms and brass knuckles \u2014 pushed down two older adults in the pandemonium.<\/p>\n

Members of Acton\u2019s security team, comprised of Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers, apprehended Havas, who never brandished his guns during the altercation. Canfield Fair Police then assisted and took him into custody, according to the outlet.<\/p>\n

\u201cLet me be clear \u2013 The Mahoning County Democratic Party abhors political violence in all forms. What happened at our tent today during today\u2019s visit from Dr. Acton is reprehensible and should be condemned by leaders on all sides of the aisle,\u201d Anderson said. <\/p>\n

\u201cMCDP is grateful for the quick response by our local law enforcement officials as well as the Ohio State Highway Patrol providing Dr. Acton security,\u201d the Chair added.<\/p>\n

Inmate records show Havas, a large, bearded bald man, has been charged with two counts of assault and one count of disorderly conduct. He is not facing any firearms-related charges. <\/p>\n

Acton, a physician running in the state\u2019s governor\u2019s race against Republican Vivek Ramaswamy, was not hurt in the incident and remained on site to attend to one of the injured, NBC News reported.<\/p>\n

\u201cCandidates should be able to meet with voters without having to worry about threats or violence. What happened today is completely unacceptable and has no place in politics, and we hope that no one was hurt,\u201d Connie Luck, the Communications Director for Vivek for Ohio, said in a statement to 21 News. <\/p>\n
