With a conviction for the 1996 murder of Tupac Shakur this week, pressure is now mounting on authorities to find The Notorious B.I.G.\u2019s killer.<\/p>\n

The Brooklyn rapper \u2014 born Christopher Wallace, also known as Biggie \u2014 was gunned down in a drive-by shooting on March 9, 1997, in Los Angeles; a murder widely believed to have been in revenge for killing Shakur.<\/p>\n

That case came to a conclusion when Duane \u201cKeefe D\u201d Davis\u00a0was found guilty at court in Las Vegas last week of murder for ordering his cousin, Orlando Lane, to kill Shakur then handing him a gun.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Tupac verdict doesn\u2019t necessarily help solve Biggie\u2019s murder, but it inevitably puts it under an intense microscope,\u201d Justin Tinsley, author of \u201cBiggie and the World that Made Him\u201d told The Post.<\/p>\n

Both murders were gang related, as Shakur was aligned with the Bloods street gang, while BIG\u2019s manager, Sean \u201cDiddy\u201d Combs, has been alleged to have connections to their rivals, the Crips.<\/p>\n

Multiple theories over who killed Wallace abound, from rumors of involvement by off-duty LAPD officers to the killer being a juicily nicknamed associate of Shakur\u2019s manager, Suge Knight.<\/p>\n

However, gangland lips are tightly sealed, and self-incrimination \u2014 as was the case with Davis, who boasted of his role as \u201cshot caller\u201d of Shakur\u2019s murder in a book \u2014 remains unlikely. Almost 30 years later, nobody has been charged in the killing.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat separates the two cases is that Biggie does not have a central figure who put himself inside the story [like] Keefe D,\u201d Tinsley said. \u201cThe police need somebody to corroborate evidence. Biggie needs his Keefe D moment.\u201d<\/p>\n

Somewhat ironically, Davis \u2014 who was a leader in the Crips \u2014 had his first brush with law enforcement when he was hauled in by the LAPD and questioned about Wallace\u2019s shooting.<\/p>\n

That drive-by took place outside the Petersen Automotive Museum on Wilshire Boulevard where Wallace had just attended a party. \u00a0A Chevrolet pulled up alongside the GMC Suburban he was riding in and opened fire. Like Shakur, he was hit with four bullets.<\/p>\n

Former LAPD detective Greg Kading, who investigated both the murders of Wallace and Shakur said he and others from the LAPD interviewed a woman, who was given the pseudonym \u201cTheresa Swan.\u201d<\/p>\n

She told law enforcers about receiving orders to get an associate named Wardell \u201cPoochie\u201d Fouse to kill Biggie, who was traveling in a three-car caravan and had security with him when he was shot, after receiving threats warning him not to come to Los Angeles.<\/p>\n

\u201cTheresa goes and meets with Poochie,\u201d Kading, who authored the book \u201cMurder Rap,\u201d told The Post. \u201cThey agreed on the amount of money Poochie was expecting; money was gotten to the girl and she paid him. Then the lone gunman, driving a green Impala, pulled up alongside Biggie and shot him.\u201d<\/p>\n

But that\u2019s just one of many accounts. Randall Sullivan, in his books \u201cLabyrinth\u201d and the follow-up \u201cDead Wrong,\u201d made a case that members of the LAPD \u2014 some of whom were alleged to be on the payroll of Knight\u2019s Death Row Records label\u00a0\u2014 had a hand in it.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe most likely theory, which has not been proven to an absolute certainty \u2026 is that police officers working for Suge Knight coordinated the murder, with the actual assassin being a [hired] hit man \u2013 who had spent many years in prison for armed robbery,\u201d Sullivan told The Post.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was made known that Combs was wanted dead, and Biggie was his biggest star. The hitman couldn\u2019t get Diddy [who was in one of the other cars], so he got Biggie.\u201d<\/p>\n

Knight has never been officially named a suspect or implicated in Wallace\u2019s murder, despite prosecutors suggesting he was, during the Shakur trial. He is presently in prison for an unrelated manslaughter.<\/p>\n

In 2002, the year Sullivan\u2019s book was published, members of Wallace\u2019s family sued the city of Los Angeles and members of the LAPD. \u201cIt was going to be a billion-dollar wrongful death lawsuit,\u201d he said of the legal action, which charged not enough was done\u00a0to prevent Biggie\u2019s death.<\/p>\n

Perry R. Sanders, Jr., who represented Wallace\u2019s late mother, Voletta Wallace, told The Post their suit against the LAPD went to court, but did not reach completion.<\/p>\n

\u201cEvidence was found in the lead detective\u2019s desk drawer that indeed implicated police involvement,\u201d Sanders told The Post, speaking of Biggie\u2019s murder. \u201cThe judge ended up declaring a mistrial, making them pay seven figures in attorney fees.\u201d<\/p>\n

In 2007, another suit was filed which contended former police officers were\u00a0involved in the shooting, but that case was dismissed.<\/p>\n

Alleged gunman Poochie \u2014 also killed in a drive-by in 2003 \u2014 may not be a household name for most, but in Compton\u2019s gang scene he was a well-known figure.<\/p>\n

Recalling seeing him in the recording studio, singer Danny Boy said: \u201cIt was kind of eerie when Poochie came around.<\/p>\n

\u201cDo I believe that man was a killer? Hell, yeah.\u00a0He was definitely a killer. He looked like it. He felt like it. You felt it when he came into the room,\u201d he said on \u201cThe Art of Dialogue\u201d YouTube series.<\/p>\n

Kading, Tinsley and Sullivan agree that it is unlikely the murder of Wallace was a one-man operation.<\/p>\n

\u201cTo kill somebody like Biggie [who had Crips bodyguards] you would need what is called a spotter,\u201d said Tinsley. \u201cSomeone to tell you where he is, which car he\u2019s in, what street they are turning down. I don\u2019t think there\u2019s any way you can pull off something like that without it being a joint effort.\u201d<\/p>\n

Tantalizingly, this means that, even if the gunslinger himself is no longer alive, there can be someone walking around who knows the particulars of Wallace\u2019s killing\u00a0\u2014 and maybe took part in it.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Some of the more conspiratorial thinking about the murder has even suggested Diddy, whose car was right in front of the one transporting Biggie, knows more than he\u2019s let on.<\/p>\n

In \u201cDiddy: The Making of a Bad Boy,\u201d Gene Deal, a former bodyguard to Diddy, addressed\u00a0rumors about his boss. \u201cDid he directly have something to do with it? He could have \u2026 The week [in] which Biggie was murdered he was acting real anxious and trying to get Big at this party,\u201d Deal said in the documentary.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd [what] was crazy was, Big was telling people he had to be in London. But Puff was telling people, \u2018He ain\u2019t going to London\u2019 that whole week.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

However, Deal didn\u2019t offer any explanation as to why Diddy would have any reason to be involved in the death of his most famous and profitable star, who was also one of his closest friends. Diddy has explicitly denied any involvement, issuing a statement saying: \u201cI was not involved in the murder of Christopher Wallace [Biggie Smalls].\u201d<\/p>\n

Diddy is currently in prison on prostitution-related charges, his team did not respond to a request for comment from The Post.<\/p>\n

Kading hopes there will be a death-bed confession, or a resetting of someone\u2019s conscience, or maybe a criminal arrested who realizes his knowledge of an old case is more valuable than he thought.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s going to have to be some rock-hard evidence brought forward,\u201d said Tinsley. \u201cBut the encouraging thing about the Tupac verdict is that it proves these cases are never too old to pursue.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t know how it\u2019s going to happen; I don\u2019t know when it\u2019s going to happen; but I think there is somebody out there who\u2019s going to talk. Then the dominoes will fall.\u201d<\/p>\n
