An \u201cunusually aggressive\u201d wild animal is terrorizing a New Hampshire neighborhood, attacking at least three people in less than two days \u2014 as residents were urged to \u201cremain aware of their surroundings.\u201d<\/p>\n

The mysterious creature \u2014 which witnesses described as a gray fox or a fisher \u2014 has been reported attacking people in the Centerra Park area of Lebanon since Sunday, the Lebanon Police Department said Tuesday.<\/p>\n

Police believe the same animal is behind all three attacks, but officers have not been able to find the culprit or confirm exactly what it is.<\/p>\n

The small, gray animal was filmed charging at two people near a U-Haul truck in a parking lot, according to surveillance video obtained by WMUR.<\/p>\n

The creature grabbed one man\u2019s bag before launching after his feet and legs.<\/p>\n

The man then kicked the animal, which eventually scrambled under the truck.<\/p>\n

The first attack was reported Sunday, with two more reported afterward. The latest happened Monday evening, according to Lebanon police.<\/p>\n

Police suspected that a fisher cat was behind the first attack, which occurred near the Centerra Parkway.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s concerning because of the animal attacking people. That\u2019s usually indicative of something being wrong with the animal, most likely rabies,\u201d Lebanon Police Chief Phillip Roberts said, according to WMUR.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd then, you know, the fact that it\u2019s coming out and scratching and biting at people. That\u2019s obviously a concern to us,\u201d Roberts added.<\/p>\n

\u201cOh my goodness, that\u2019s the scariest thing,\u201d one local told the outlet, adding, \u201cLike there\u2019s not enough to look out for these days, now you gotta look out for fisher cats in the parking lot.\u201d<\/p>\n

Police are working with the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department to locate the animal and determine whether it is sick.<\/p>\n

Residents, employees and visitors in the area are being told to stay away from any wild animal acting aggressively or unusually.<\/p>\n

\u201cDo not approach, attempt to capture, feed, or otherwise interact with the animal,\u201d police said<\/p>\n

Anyone who spots the animal should move to a safe location and call Lebanon police or Fish and Game.<\/p>\n

Police also warned about possible rabies exposure, urging anyone bitten or scratched by a wild animal to wash the area thoroughly with soap and water and seek immediate medical attention.<\/p>\n

Lebanon isn\u2019t the only place being plagued by a potential rabies scare. <\/p>\n

The Mount Loretto Unique Area, a 241-acre nature preserve on the south shore of Staten Island, issued a safety advisory as a fox that may be infected with rabies had bitten a visitor, according to the\u00a0New York State Department of Environmental Conservation.<\/p>\n
