A suspected gunman accused of shooting dead two people at his Minneapolis apartment complex allegedly told residents he would \u201ckill someone\u201d and previously threatened to gun down his ex-girlfriend. <\/p>\n

Carlton Johnson II, 35, clashed with residents at Shoreline Plaza, where he allegedly assaulted one person, and showed off his gun in several incidents this year over a six-month time frame, the Minnesota Star Tribune reported.<\/p>\n

He was slapped with an eviction notice and faced a hearing on September 11 \u2014 nine days before Wednesday\u2019s rampage. <\/p>\n

Johnson allegedly killed two people and injured six \u2013 including three cops \u2013 before reportedly taking his own life. Cops have not formally named him as the perp, but was identified as the shooter by people with knowledge of the investigation, according to the outlet. <\/p>\n

Neighbors recalled Johnson had seemingly been plotting some sort of massacre in the days before the shooting.<\/p>\n

Johnson, who lived alone,\u00a0allegedly threatened to shoot his ex-girlfriend and two property managers, his neighbor of a few months, Chris Miller, told the Star Tribune, recalling a conversation that happened on either Sunday or Monday.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe said, \u2018I\u2019m going to shoot people,\u2019\u201d Miller said.\u00a0 \u201cHe was very, very angry, drunk and mad.\u201d<\/p>\n

Derrick Thompson, who had recently moved out of the apartment complex, claimed Johnson was \u201cfighting people every day, every damn day,\u201d according to the Star Tribune.<\/p>\n

Thompson said Johnson was someone who socialized with neighbors but had \u201clost everything.\u201d<\/p>\n

Johnson was involved in a child custody dispute and his car had recently been repossessed, according to his ex-neighbor.<\/p>\n

On June 16, the suspected shooter received a notice informing him that his lease was being terminated on June 29, KSTP reported.<\/p>\n

The letter, which was sent by the property\u2019s legal team, set out seven incidents between January and June this year when Johnson allegedly breached the terms of his lease.<\/p>\n

On Jan. 16, he \u201cdisturbed the peace\u201d when he argued with other residents and knocked on one person\u2019s door.<\/p>\n

On Feb. 19, he allegedly admitted a resident to the apartment complex without following its sign-in procedure.<\/p>\n

Johnson allegedly assaulted one resident on March 23, according to the letter, which didn\u2019t specify any further details of the assault.<\/p>\n

In June, he allegedly openly displayed a firearm, boasted about his weapon, and told residents he would \u201ckill someone,\u201d according to the letter.<\/p>\n

Johnson was warned he would face a court action if he remained in his apartment building beyond noon on June 29.<\/p>\n

Johnson\u2019s eviction trial was set to take place in August before it was moved to Sept.11, KARE 11 reported. It\u2019s unclear why the trial was moved.<\/p>\n

Despite not formally identifying the shooter, cops said the suspect was known to law enforcement.<\/p>\n

Johnson violated a contact order relating to a domestic abuse case in 2012 and was given probation, according to the Star Tribune.<\/p>\n

In 2018, he was charged with domestic assault after his sister alleged he threw her around her home in a drunken rage.\u00a0 This resulted in her hitting furniture.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Johnson told her he was \u201cnot afraid to shoot people in the face,\u201d according to court documents seen by the Star Tribune.<\/p>\n

The domestic assault charge was later dropped after he pleaded to a misdemeanor property damage charge.<\/p>\n

Johnson was slapped with a 90-day jail sentence, but 86 of those days were stayed.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Cops have not revealed a motive for the shooting, which happened just before 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.<\/p>\n

Thompson was at the apartment collecting his mail when \u201cheard a girl.. screaming.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt wasn\u2019t long before all hell broke loose,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Multiple victims were found in the apartment building\u2019s lobby before cops heard more gunfire, Minneapolis Police said in a release.<\/p>\n

Cops then made their way to an upper floor where they \u201cencountered a haze.\u201d<\/p>\n

One person shot died after being rushed to Hennepin County Medical Center, while another was pronounced dead at the scene. <\/p>\n

The shooting\u2019s victims have not been identified.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Three cops were injured \u2013 two of whom were hit by gunfire, according to police spokesperson Garrett Parten.<\/p>\n

One officer was shot twice in the stomach, and another was shot in the leg. The third officer suffered a non-life-threatening injury.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is a tremendously tragic event, and our thoughts and prayers are with the families and loved ones of those who lost their lives, with those who were injured, and with the injured officers and their families,\u201d Parten said.<\/p>\n

Cops have not revealed how the shooter died, but sources told KTSP he died by suicide.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m truly sickened by this level of violence,\u201d interim Minneapolis police chief Bill Peterson said of the \u201ccowardly acts of a violent shooter.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThat feeling is tempered only by the courageous actions of the Minneapolis police officers who responded without hesitation, confronted an extraordinarily dangerous situation, and worked to end the violence and restore safety,\u201d Peterson said.<\/p>\n

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey also paid tribute to the law enforcement response.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur Minneapolis police officers acted with incredible bravery and courage,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Had it not been for \u201ctheir heroic response, the death toll would\u2019ve been far higher,\u201d the mayor added.<\/p>\n
