{"id":7893,"date":"2026-09-02T07:06:46","date_gmt":"2026-09-02T07:06:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/metrotransitreview.com\/?p=7893"},"modified":"2026-09-02T07:06:46","modified_gmt":"2026-09-02T07:06:46","slug":"exclusive-anna-wintour-is-an-out-of-touch-dinosaur-who-must-take-fall-for-mets-john-galliano-flop-insiders-say-she-should-retire","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/metrotransitreview.com\/?p=7893","title":{"rendered":"Exclusive | Anna Wintour is an out-of-touch dinosaur who must take fall for Met\u2019s John Galliano flop, insiders say: &#8216;She should retire&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p>Iron-fisted Vogue editrix Anna Wintour is a dinosaur who\u2019s out of touch with the new generation \u2014 and should take the fall for the Met\u2019s John Galliano disaster, fed-up insiders told The Post.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/metrotransitreview.com\/?p=7891\">Exclusive | Anna Wintour \u2018overplayed her hand\u2019 with failed John Galliano Met Gala theme: \u2018Take a year off\u2019<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s too late for an apology \u2014 she should retire,\u2019\u2019 said a fashion source who works closely with Wintour.<\/p>\n<p>A Conde Nast insider added that the A-list fashion socialite and media titan, 76, \u201cdoesn\u2019t understand what people are talking about and thought she could shoulder through this and it would blow over.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnna\u2019s lost her touch on the zeitgeist,\u201d they said.<\/p>\n<p>It was Wintour who pushed the Metropolitan Museum of Art\u2019s fated decision to fete disgraced designer Galliano \u2014 a convicted antisemite who once declared, \u201cI love Hitler\u2019\u2019 \u2014 at its next star-studded Manhattan Met Gala and accompanying costume exhibit.<\/p>\n<p>The selection of Galliano, 65, ended in catastrophe \u2014 with scores of wealthy Met donors joining Jewish leaders and others to demand the honor be rescinded before the flamboyant designer caved in Monday and bowed out.<\/p>\n<p>The first source said Wintour\u2019s grip on the Met Gala, influence over designers and how Vogue parent company Conde Nast profits from it all has always given her immense power \u2014 but that it might be time to retool the relationship between the entities.<\/p>\n<p>The Conde insider added that Wintour \u2014 the former longtime editor in chief of the fashion-industry bible and now a global content editor there \u2014 might not be up to the tasks anyway anymore because she\u2019s out of step with the next generation, particularly when it comes to social media.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe still has stories printed out for her, and she doesn\u2019t understand social-media discourse in general,\u201d the source said.<\/p>\n<p>But another source insisted that Wintour embraces some technology.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe\u2019s digital-savvy and reads plenty of things on her phone, and she\u2019s always on Zoom,\u201d the source said.<\/p>\n<p>Sources said Wintour pushed for the Galliano celebration because she really believes in him and his redemption.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt comes from a place of love and forgiveness. She really believes in people\u2019s second chances and becoming better people and learning from mistakes,\u201d a source said. \u201cIt came from a good place. But Anna is very loyal to the people she is loyal to.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The industry source who works closely with Wintour suggested she should no longer be a Met board trustee because of the Galliano situation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI wish Anna would take more accountability,\u2019\u2019 another source said of Wintour \u2014 who issued a statement calling Galliano\u2019s decision to step away from the honor \u201ccourageous.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe is the person who wanted this to happen, never fully considering the consequences,\u2019\u2019 the source said. \u201cShe is the public face and reaps the benefit of the gala and the surrounding coverage.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhy does she only get to reap the rewards and not face more criticism?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sources in Wintour\u2019s camp pointed out that many other people signed off on the Galliano tribute besides Wintour.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPeople seem to think she\u2019s the sole person [making decisions about the Met theme],\u201d a source said. \u201cIt\u2019s a huge amount of people on the Met board that signed off on this. She\u2019s a piece of that.<\/p>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cIt wasn\u2019t her decision alone, by any stretch of the imagination. This exhibition\u2026 people have been speaking about it for at least a couple of years. It was a big group decision. It\u2019s a team effort.
