Speeding \u201cHell on Wheels\u201d killer Mackenzie Shirilla\u2019s father called his daughter \u201cdumb\u201d during a heated showdown with cops after her November 2022 arrest, newly released bodycam footage shows.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Steve Shirilla hurled the insult while demanding officers at the Strongsville Police Department let him speak with his then-18-year-old daughter, who had just been taken into custody on double murder charges \u2013 more than three months after the fiery car crash that killed her ex-boyfriend and friend.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI need to speak to my daughter, because you guys aren\u2019t allowed to speak to her at all \u2013 that\u2019s from the lawyer,\u201d an enraged Steve tells a police official while wildly gesturing his hands, according to video of the ugly station-house confrontation.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cAm I going to be allowed to have a two-minute conversation with her?\u201d he asks while anxiously pacing the lobby.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cYou cannot talk to her while she\u2019s here, no,\u201d the official says. \u201cShe\u2019s an adult. She can\u2019t take any phone calls right now.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWhy doesn\u2019t she get a phone call?\u201d Steve fumes.\u00a0<\/p>\n

His wife and Mackenzie\u2019s mother, Natalie Shirilla, jumps in: \u201cShe has legal rights!\u201d<\/p>\n

As another officer attempts to explain the situation \u2013 saying, \u201cShe is 18 years old\u201d \u2013 Steve seemingly snaps.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah, she\u2019s a dumb 18-year-old that just turned 18,\u201d he bellows.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Natalie then bizarrely chuckles as she tells him, \u201cStop saying she\u2019s dumb.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

But Steve doubles down.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u00a0\u201cAll the kids nowadays are dumb. These guys are going to take advantage of her. She\u2019s not allowed to speak to you guys. I\u2019m telling you that,\u201d he charges. <\/p>\n

\u201cListen, her attorney can call us,\u201d the now-fed-up officer says, following the official through a door to get away from the tense exchange.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Even after the cop shuts the door behind him, leaving the exasperated parents alone in the waiting room, Steve can still be heard shouting: \u201cDon\u2019t ask her any questions \u2013 she\u2019s not allowed to speak to you!\u201d<\/p>\n

Earlier in the confrontation, Steve blasted cops for executing the arrest warrant the same day a judge signed it \u2013 despite the official explaining that it\u2019s routine police practice.<\/p>\n

\u201cHow you guys did this on a weekend is just \u2013 all you had to do was go, \u2018Hey, there\u2019s a warrant for her,\u2019\u201d Steve says, mimicking a phone with his hand. \u201cWe would\u2019ve brought her right down here no problem.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s just unbelievable\u2026it\u2019s just beyond me,\u201d he adds, throwing his arms up and pacing the lobby again.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Steve also ripped the arresting officer, who he said had been stationed outside the family home, as a \u201ccreeper.\u201d<\/p>\n

The hardline official didn\u2019t mince words in his response to the frantic father\u2019s complaints.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cWe follow the law \u2013 that\u2019s what we\u2019re doing today,\u201d he calmly says, according to the clip. <\/p>\n

Mackenzie, now 20, was found guilty of intentionally plowing her car into a brick wall, killing Dominic Russo and Davion Flanagan, during a dramatic bench trial in August 2023. She is serving two concurrent 15 years to life sentences in an Ohio women\u2019s prison, though she is appealing her conviction for the second time.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Steve and Natalie have faced intense public backlash for their seemingly cavalier approach to parenting and their daughter\u2019s horrific crimes, as captured in a new popular Netflix documentary, \u201cThe Crash.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI knew she was smoking dope \u2013 I don\u2019t have a problem with her smoking dope,\u201d Steve said at one point in the movie, while addressing Mackenzie\u2019s frequent marijuana consumption throughout her teens.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cIf you\u2019re going to smoke a drug, that\u2019s the one I believe you should take\u2026you know, she\u2019s not shooting up,\u201d he continued.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The questionable comments swiftly landed him in hot water professionally.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Just days after the documentary\u2019s release, Steve was suspended from his teaching job at a Pre-K through eighth grade school outside of Cleveland amidst allegations of his \u201cpoor judgement,\u201d according to school officials.\u00a0<\/p>\n

He has since expressed dissatisfaction about how the film was edited, as not all of his comments made the final cut \u2013 but maintained both his and Natalie\u2019s longtime position that their daughter is innocent.\u00a0<\/p>\n
