Florida Republican Rep. Mar\u00eda Elvira Salazar did a quick about-face on President Trump\u2019s massive Venezuela oil deal Saturday \u2014 deleting a social media post blasting the pact before returning to declare it was \u201ca great deal\u201d for America and the Venezuelan people<\/p>\n

Salazar, who has been outspoken of communist Venezuelan President Delcy Rodr\u00edguez, took to X to declare that the pact would come to an end once President Trump\u2019s term ends.<\/p>\n

\u201cAny oil \u201cdeal\u201d with Venezuela\u2019s interim regime has an expiration date: the day President Trump leaves the White House,\u201d Salazar wrote on the site. <\/p>\n

She later deleted the English and Spanish posts and returned about an hour later with a very different message.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe U.S.-Venezuela oil deal is a great deal for the United States and the Venezuelan people,\u201d she wrote.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor years, China took advantage of Venezuela\u2019s weakness to buy its oil at deep discounts. Now America is stepping in, and American investment and influence offer Venezuela a path toward prosperity, stability, and security.\u201d<\/p>\n

But Salazar still took a swipe at Rodr\u00edguez, declaring: \u201cDelcy is the wrong person to make this deal with.\u201d<\/p>\n

Her revised posts argued that the agreement should outlast Trump\u2019s presidency \u2014 but could only do so if Venezuela holds free elections.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe want this deal to last 100 years,\u201d Salazar wrote. \u201cOnly an administration backed by strong democratic institutions and the rule of law can guarantee that. This will only be possible with free elections.\u201d<\/p>\n

Trump announced Friday that Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Rodr\u00edguez had negotiated an agreement giving private US companies access to what he described as \u201c65 BILLION BARRELS\u201d of proven Venezuelan oil reserves \u201cat no cost to the American Taxpayer.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Venezuelan government said companies would be permitted to work on 17 oil fields, bringing an estimated $100 billion in investment to the country\u2019s battered oil industry and more than $209 billion in tax revenue.<\/p>\n

Salazar had initially expressed deep skepticism, warning that Rodr\u00edguez was merely \u201cbuying time.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe regime has stolen American investments before, and it will do again the moment it can,\u201d she wrote in the deleted post.<\/p>\n

Rodr\u00edguez has been Venezuela\u2019s interim leader since January, when US Special Forces captured former President Nicol\u00e1s Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores.<\/p>\n
