PLYMOUTH, Mass \u2014\u00a0Lindsay Clancy\u00a0was a \u201cdarn good mother\u201d\u00a0before she stranged her three kids to death,\u00a0her defense attorney told a jury just before they started deliberating on her high-stakes triple murder case.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou know from looking at the objective evidence in this case, this young lady did nothing wrong in her life,\u201d defense attorney Kevin Reddington said. \u201cShe was a nurse, a daughter, a wife, and a darn good mother.\u201d<\/p>\n

Clancy \u2014 a 36-year-old former labor and delivery nurse \u2014 killed kids Cora, 5, Dawson, 3 and 8-month-old Callan before attempting to take her own life on Jan. 24, 2023, at her Duxbury, Mass. home.<\/p>\n

But prosecutors said that Clancy coldly choked each of her children to death after getting her husband out of the house \u2014 strangling them one-by-one for one to two minutes before she left them \u201cdiscarded on the basement floor like broken toys.\u201d<\/p>\n

Clancy is asking the jury to find her not guilty by reason of insanity, arguing she was experiencing severe postpartum psychosis and heard a man\u2019s voice telling her to kill the kids and herself.<\/p>\n

Reddington tried to blame Clancy\u2019s\u00a0psychiatrist Dr. Jennifer Tufts\u00a0\u2014 who prescribed her psychiatric meds in the fall of 2022, just months before the killings \u2014 for the mom of three\u2019s descent into psychosis.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis woman lived for her kids until she had the pleasure of going into see Dr. Tufts,\u201d the defense attorney said. \u201cAfter she went to Dr. Tufts it was not a wonderful life anymore.\u201d<\/p>\n

Reddington said that by December of that year Clancy\u2019s \u201cmind is gone\u201d evidenced in part by a daily journal she kept of her medications and her moods. Many entries that month\u00a0detailed her \u201chorrible instrusive thoughts.\u201d<\/p>\n

Clancy sent her mother a text in October asking her to come stay at her house because she was \u201cvery sick,\u201d which Reddington told the jury showed \u201cthe depths of despair\u201d she was in.<\/p>\n

He admitted Clancy\u2019s \u201chorrible, horrific act\u201d but said the powerful psychiatric medications she was prescribed that fall were to blame \u2014 along with negligent care from Tufts and the other providers Clancy saw during that time.<\/p>\n

Prosecutor Jennifer Sprague, however, told jurors that Clancy\u2019s attempts to blame the health care system were simply \u201ca distraction.\u201d<\/p>\n
