Hayden Panettiere\u2019s on-off boyfriend, Brian Hickerson, pursued another woman months before the actress\u2019 death, Page Six has exclusively learned.<\/p>\n

We have reviewed messages via Instagram and text between who is believed to be Hickerson and a now-26-year-old woman from Greenville, South Carolina, that demonstrate him repeatedly showing romantic interest in her.<\/p>\n

The woman, who asked to remain anonymous, told us she and Hickerson \u2014 who is also from Greenville, though he spent much of his time with Panettiere in Los Angeles \u2014 allegedly met at the downtown nightclub Cat\u2019s Pajamas on the night of March 28 when she was with a friend.<\/p>\n

The nature and status of Panettiere and Hickerson\u2019s years-long relationship at the time is unclear, and we cannot independently confirm whether there was any overlap.<\/p>\n

The Greenville woman admitted to us she was \u201cheavily intoxicated\u201d when she allegedly met Hickerson and didn\u2019t \u201cremember much of that night,\u201d which she relayed to him when she noticed he had followed her on Instagram and sent her a direct message the next day.<\/p>\n

(Though Hickerson has since deactivated his account, the name @brianhickerson_ is still tagged in public posts. The landing page, however, no longer exists.)<\/p>\n

\u201cGreat meeting you last night pretty lady. I owe you a date. I\u2019m heading to [C]ity Tavern for a slushie in a bit you should join,\u201d read the March 29 DM that appears to have been sent by Hickerson.<\/p>\n

The woman claimed to us she did not know who he was and had \u201cno knowledge\u201d of his connection to Panettiere, noting that his account at the time featured very few and \u201coutdated\u201d photos. The woman showed us text messages between her and a friend from that time that appear to corroborate her claims.<\/p>\n

The woman responded to Hickerson on April 1, \u201cHey Brian! I\u2019m sorry I missed this \u2014 I\u2019m awful with my inbox. I have to be so honest, I don\u2019t remember much of that night. What happened? \ud83d\ude02\ud83d\ude05.\u201d<\/p>\n

She added, \u201cI\u2019m sorry I missed your slushy invite but I for sure would not have made it. Today is the first day I\u2019ve had a clear mind since Saturday night.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hickerson replied by saying she \u201cdidn\u2019t seem too drunk\u201d to him and that he was out that night because his brother, whom he did not name, \u201cwas in town.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYou wanted to make sure I took you somewhere nice on a date which clearly throws Waffle House out the window so I guess Halls [Chophouse] might have to do if you wanna meet each other properly,\u201d he continued.<\/p>\n

\u201cJust moved here from Los Angeles so it was nice meeting a pretty girl in Greenville out of the blue. I also realized after I reached out on instagram you gave me your number so I\u2019ll shoot you a text if that\u2019s better.\u201d<\/p>\n

The woman messaged back that she had no recollection of his story but did not indicate she didn\u2019t believe him. She then asked where specifically they met at the nightclub before inquiring, \u201cHow old are you? I\u2019m 25.\u201d<\/p>\n

She added that she\u2019d \u201cdefinitely prefer to meet properly\u201d and apologized if Hickerson felt \u201cpushed\u201d into taking her to the upscale steakhouse, playfully noting that she saves Waffle House for \u201cthe 12th-ish date.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hickerson claimed they met \u201cin the middle of the dance floor\u201d and insisted he planned on taking her to Halls \u201cregardless,\u201d agreeing that Waffle House was a \u201cvery intimate\u201d location for a first date.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m 36 but I read on a 25 year old level. Is that a deal breaker?\u201d Hickerson, now 37, quipped.<\/p>\n

The woman \u2014 who made a joke about her drunk alter ego \u2014 reacted to that message with a laugh-cry emoji and suggested they \u201cdo Halls and see how [they] get along\u201d given that they should only go to Waffle House in comfy clothes like \u201cPJs\u201d after they\u2019ve \u201cknown each other for a while.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hickerson responded by saying the woman was \u201cjust as adorable as [she] was the other night\u201d before asking where she\u2019s from originally.<\/p>\n

Hickerson \u2014 who has openly struggled with substance abuse and addiction over the years \u2014 added, \u201cI swear ten vodka sodas deep I heard Alabama.\u201d<\/p>\n

The woman wondered whether Hickerson got that information from her friend, who is from Alabama, clarifying that she is from Greenville.<\/p>\n

Hickerson then said he \u201cgrew up here as well\u201d before inquiring about where the woman went to school, but she did not respond.<\/p>\n

She told us she \u201cstopped corresponding\u201d because she \u201clost interest\u201d in Hickerson, explaining she wasn\u2019t keen on their age gap and was uncomfortable with having no memory of their meeting.<\/p>\n

Hickerson then appears to have texted the woman twice using a number that matches one we have for him. On April 2, he wrote, \u201cHey you it\u2019s Brian Hickerson. Figured I\u2019d text you since you don\u2019t check Insta.\u201d<\/p>\n

After she did not reply, he messaged again on April 4, \u201cIm gonna be out of town for work till next Monday. So how about we shoot for halls mid week?\u201d<\/p>\n

Again the woman did not write back. Hours later, Hickerson replied to her Instagram Story in which she had urged anyone who didn\u2019t have a church buddy for Easter Sunday \u2014 the following day \u2014 to reach out so she could join them.<\/p>\n

Hickerson responded, \u201cGoodness you must be reading my mind haha I was gonna skip tomorrow because it was just me. Where do you go?\u201d The woman did not engage.<\/p>\n

He attempted to reach her one more time when he texted on April 14, \u201cHey hey, I\u2019m back in town this week. When am I taking you to hall\u2019s?\u201d<\/p>\n

The woman did not get back to him, and they never spoke again.<\/p>\n

She told us the next time she heard his name was when news broke that Panettiere had died suddenly on Aug. 16 at an Airbnb in Greenville \u2014 where the actress had been staying with Hickerson.<\/p>\n

\u201cI vaguely remembered the name and began looking through my direct messages,\u201d the woman explained. \u201cThe possibility that I had unknowingly become connected to a high-profile relationship, especially in these unfortunate circumstances, was beyond my comprehension.\u201d<\/p>\n

It was during this time that the woman claimed she learned of Hickerson\u2019s documented history of domestic violence toward Panettiere.<\/p>\n

She claimed Hickerson never mentioned the \u201cHeroes\u201d star and that she was not aware of the timeline of their tumultuous relationship, which began in 2018.<\/p>\n

Hickerson\u2019s attorney declined to comment on this story, and Panettiere\u2019s rep did not respond to our inquiry.<\/p>\n

Hickerson and his brother Zach Hickerson were present when cops and medical personnel arrived to the Airbnb where the former \u2014 who had been asleep in the bedroom \u2014 found an \u201cunresponsive\u201d Panettiere sitting in a chair in the living room. (Neither Brian nor Zach has been accused\u00a0of\u00a0being\u00a0involved in her death.)<\/p>\n

Zach, 38, identified Panettiere to responding officers as his \u201cbrother\u2019s girlfriend,\u201d though the nature and status of their relationship at the time of her death remains unclear.<\/p>\n

Brian and Panettiere were last photographed together at Los Angeles International Airport on March 2 \u2014 less than a month before he met the Greenville woman.<\/p>\n

At the time, the \u201cRemember the Titans\u201d star was wearing sunglasses and using crutches to walk, insisting she was dealing with pinched nerves in her lower back.<\/p>\n

In April 2021, following one of his multiple arrests, Brian pleaded no contest to two felony counts of injuring a spouse or cohabitant. He was subsequently sentenced to 45 days in an LA county jail, four years of probation, domestic violence classes and restitution, while Panettiere was granted a five-year protective order, which expired this past April.<\/p>\n

Her neighbor recently told us she saw Brian with Panettiere at her West Hollywood apartment complex many times while the protective order was active, detailing the two times she saw the \u201cNashville\u201d star being taken out of her unit via gurney. Brian\u2019s attorney declined to comment on that story.<\/p>\n

Panettiere \u2014 who was also open about her struggles with substance abuse and addiction \u2014 died of a suspected \u201coverdose,\u201d per the Greenville Police Department dispatch. She was 36.<\/p>\n

Brian went on to\u00a0show responding officers a \u201cbag of medication\u201d\u00a0she had allegedly been taking.<\/p>\n

According to the autopsy report, \u201cno signs of trauma were discovered\u00a0that would have contributed to the death.\u201d However, the investigation \u2014 which\u00a0did not initially indicate \u201cany signs of foul play or suspicious circumstances\u201d\u00a0\u2014 remains \u201cactive and ongoing\u201d as the the Greenville County Coroner\u2019s Office awaits toxicology results to determine the cause and manner of her death.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhile an investigation is ongoing and further developments are coming to light, we are confident that justice will soon be served,\u201d a rep for Panettiere \u2014 who publicly detailed her abusive relationship with Brian in May \u2014 recently told us.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Brian \u2014 who has previously confessed to being abusive toward Panettiere \u2014\u00a0broke his silence on her death and associated investigation on Aug. 20, telling us via his attorney, \u201cHayden\u2019s death remains under investigation, and it is important to allow that investigation to proceed.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs has been publicly reported, police confirmed there were no signs of foul play. Out of respect for Hayden\u2019s loved ones and the ongoing investigation, there will be no further comment at this time.\u201d<\/p>\n

In June, Brian\u00a0made a chilling comment\u00a0to an Instagram user who asked him, \u201cSome woman dates you???\u201d<\/p>\n

The aspiring actor replied, \u201cYes, its wonderful if she gets out of line I just Google myself and say hey stop it this is what I\u2019m allegedly capable of.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Greenville woman told us she does not believe he was referring to her.<\/p>\n
