A divorcing New Jersey billionaire\u2019s gal pal was his son\u2019s fencing coach \u2014 and\u00a0once sued his wife for defamation, claiming the spouse insinuated she ruined their marriage, court papers show.<\/p>\n

The revelations are just the latest bizarre twist in the sensational case involving what could potentially be the largest divorce settlement in New Jersey history \u2014 $6.2 billion \u2014 and one of the most expensive payouts involving a split in the US ever.<\/p>\n

Lauren Phillips, 40 \u2014 an award-winning former Rutgers University fencer \u2014 alleged in her 2024 lawsuit that Laura Overdeck, the soon-to-be ex-wife of hedge-fund savant John Overdeck, 56, publicly accused her of being her husband\u2019s \u201cparamour\u201d and was \u201cthe reason for the breakup\u201d of the Short Hills couple\u2019s marriage.<\/p>\n

The suit \u2014 exclusively obtained by The Post \u2014 also claimed that Laura Overdeck, a 56-year-old who shares three kids with her estranged hubby, accused Phillips \u201cof being a criminal who \u2018threatens people with real knives\u2019\u201d in a text message to her estranged husband.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese statements have been repeated throughout the course of the year to Ms. Phillips\u2019 other clients, friends and business associates,\u201d said the suit filed by Phillips \u2014 a fencing coach who owns her own gym in Millburn \u2014 that Christmas Eve.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe narrative painted by Defendant served additional purposes, namely, to smear Ms. Phillips and avoid potential media embarrassment resulting from Defendant\u2019s high-profile divorce,\u201d the suit said.<\/p>\n

The lawsuit claimed the chatty Laura had \u201caffected and will continue to affect\u201d Phillips\u2019 reputation \u2014 and, by proxy, her prestigious fencing school \u2014 causing \u201ca loss of good will and confidence in the community.\u201d<\/p>\n

A judge tossed the Essex County Superior Court suit months later when Phillips failed to follow up with the legal process.<\/p>\n

A rep for Phillips declined to comment. Neither of the Overdecks responded to requests for comment from The Post.<\/p>\n

One of Overdeck\u2019s three kids took fencing lessons for five years at Phillips\u2019 academy, the suit claimed.<\/p>\n

It added that her 24-year career as an instructor has sent some of her students getting top fencing scholarships and even competing at the Olympics.<\/p>\n

Some of what Phillips alleged in her lawsuit was referred to in body-camera footage taken nearly a year earlier outside of the Overdeck family\u2019s mansion.<\/p>\n

An unidentified woman is featured prominently in the footage, both speaking to cops during the house call and as a the subject of what the Overdecks each separately tell police.<\/p>\n

Several claims made by Laura Overdeck at the time match perfectly with Phillips\u2019 lawsuit.<\/p>\n

\u201cFrankly, it\u2019s not even that complicated. He\u2019s got a psycho girlfriend, and he\u2019s got to get out,\u201d Laura says in the footage referring to the woman, who she also accused of allegedly holding her own family \u201cat knife point.\u201d<\/p>\n

The footage also depicts John admitting to being in a \u201cdating\u201d relationship with the woman, but claimed the two never had sex or ever took their clothes off.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are having a dating relationship, but we\u2019ve never had sex,\u201d he told one of the officers.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Overdecks are currently duking it out in Newark family court, with Laura Overdeck arguing for a $6.2 billion cut of her estranged hubby\u2019s share in his massive hedge fund, Two Sigma.<\/p>\n

If she wins, it could turn out to be the third-largest divorce in US history, landing the Overdecks just behind Bill and Melinda Gates and Jeff Bezos and MacKenzie Scott on the list of massive matrimonial payouts.<\/p>\n

Laura Overdeck reportedly rejected a $633 million settlement offer earlier this month, and is so far holding firm that the growth in Two Sigma since their marriage 20 years ago should be considered a marital asset.<\/p>\n

On Wednesday, John Overdeck said in court that the offer was \u201cfair and equitable.\u201d<\/p>\n
