Country music icon Dolly Parton died today, Aug. 25. She was 80. <\/p>\n

Parton\u2019s nephew and head of security, Bryan Seaver, announced her death in a video posted to Parton\u2019s social media. <\/p>\n

\u201cBy her example, we believed that anything was possible,\u201d he said in the video. \u201cShe never saw a door she couldn\u2019t open and the doors she opened made and changed history. My family and I have shared a lifetime of beautiful memories with Dolly, but so have you.\u201d<\/p>\n

Throughout her seven-decade career, Parton recorded 49 studio albums, composed over 3,000 songs, won 11 Grammys and one Academy Award.<\/p>\n

The theme song from \u201c9 to 5\u201d became one of Parton\u2019s biggest hits and won two Grammy awards. The movie was adapted into a musical in 2009; Parton composed the musical score and was nominated for a Tony Award.<\/p>\n

Parton\u2019s next film role came in 1982, when she starred in a film adaptation of the musical \u201cThe Best Little Whorehouse in Texas\u201d opposite Burt Reynolds. Based on a true story, Parton plays Miss Mona Stangely, the owner of a Texas brothel that is caught in a media firestorm after it\u2019s exposed in a newspaper and outside interests want the brothel shut down.<\/p>\n
