Dolly Parton detailed \u201chard times\u201d with her health days before her tragic death at 80.<\/p>\n

In the country music icon\u2019s final interview on Friday, she opened up to People about \u201cdealing with some health issues,\u201d which forced her to cancel an appearance at her Dollywood theme park the previous week.<\/p>\n

However, she noted, \u201cIt\u2019s not like I haven\u2019t been through hard times with my health.\u201d<\/p>\n

Parton specifically referenced being \u201cdown for several months with female issues\u201d in the early 1980s.<\/p>\n

The singer added that her most recent health struggles stemmed from not \u201cpay[ing] attention\u201d while \u201cwatching over\u201d her late husband, Carl Thomas Dean.<\/p>\n

Dean, notably, died in March 2025 at 82, nearly 59 years into the couple\u2019s ultra-private marriage.<\/p>\n

Parton shared the news of her longtime partner\u2019s passing last year \u2014 and it was her nephew who did the same for her \u201cwith absolute pride and great sadness\u201d on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis video announcement is something Dolly asked of me years ago before I fully absorbed it as a future reality,\u201d Bryan Seaver, who was also Parton\u2019s head of security for more than two decades, said of the \u201chonor.\u201d<\/p>\n

In his emotional tribute, Seaver revealed, \u201cDolly called me and said she wants to rest in a beautiful bed of plush cotton because after a life wearing heavy rhinestones, she finally deserves to be comfortable and have some rest.\u201d<\/p>\n

Nine months before her passing, the \u201c9 to 5\u201d hitmaker spoke to People about the legacy she wished to leave behind.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m at that point in my life where I just want to be able to do good things that can be carried on,\u201d she said in the November 2025 cover story. \u201cI\u2019m proud of my legacy so far, and I hope to just continue to do things that might be of use to other people.\u201d<\/p>\n

At the time, the actress, who felt she was \u201cjust getting started,\u201d quipped, \u201cI ain\u2019t got time to get old!\u201d<\/p>\n

Parton explained, \u201cI know that sounds stupid, but unless my health gives way, which right now I seem to be doing fine. \u2026 I think there\u2019s a lot to be said about age. If you allow yourself to get old, you will.\u201d<\/p>\n

Two months prior, however, Parton went public with her health struggles and began bowing out of scheduled shows.<\/p>\n

Additionally, she made headlines for missing her 80th birthday celebration at the Grand Ole Opry in January.<\/p>\n
