WASHINGTON \u2014 Taxpayers are funding $230 million in largely Biden-era grants to study woke \u201cintersectionality\u201d \u2014 the assessing of factors such as race and class to rate \u201cprivilege\u2019\u2019 and potential discrimination, .<\/p>\n

The Defense of Freedom Institute and Legal Insurrection Foundation, both right-leaning policy groups, said their review found 249 records of federal-assistance spending \u2014 propelled during the Biden era \u2014 that used the keyword \u201cintersectionality.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n

\u201cRace-obsessed \u2018Intersectionality\u2019 doctrine provides the toxic fuel for radical anarchist groups like the\u00a0Turtle Island Liberation Front, and is the mothers\u2019 milk for destructive anti-American and anti-capitalist agendas that\u00a0dominate campuses,\u201d said William Jacobson, the founder of Legal Insurrection Foundation, to The Post.<\/p>\n

\u201cAmazingly, we have discovered that the federal government has been funding the Intersectionality movement,\u2019\u2019 said Jacobson, a Cornell Law School professor.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis has to stop.\u201d<\/p>\n

Intersectionality is a belief system in which people\u2019s race, gender, sexual orientation, class, and other characteristics are used to assess their privilege and potential discrimination.<\/p>\n

Grants flagged by the report indicate the research exploded during former President Joe Biden\u2019s tenure, reaching a peak of $80.1 million in 2023, for a total of $140 million in spending to date and another $90 million earmarked.<\/p>\n

The funding levels since dropped under President Trump.<\/p>\n

Some of the programs have performance periods that go through 2030.<\/p>\n

The intersectionality funding awards vary greatly from certain types of scientific research done under the National Institutes of Health to museums to federal funding for community living.<\/p>\n

In a lot of cases, the government was funding something such medical research, in which grant applicants wove in intersectionality principles.<\/p>\n

This was apparent in some of the awards that are specific to colleges and universities, including $10.99 million to the New Hampshire Department of Health for cancer prevention and control programs and $7.53 million to the University of California, San Francisco, for an Asian American cancer cohort, the report said.<\/p>\n

The New Hampshire cancer research grant was aimed at targeting \u201cpopulations that experience health disparities across the cancer continuum and experience intersectionality of gender and income inequality.\u201d<\/p>\n

Other grants made intersectionality a front-and-center issue, including a $8.16 million to New York University for a \u201cNational Center for Engagement in Diabetes Equity Research\u201d and a $14.25 million grant to Drexel University for \u201cCatalyzing Systemic Change at Drexel University to Support Diverse Faculty in Health Disparities.\u201d<\/p>\n

The 23-page report raised concerns that the intersectionality focus in those grants means that grant recipients will take that federal funding for \u201cunlawful identity-based decision-making to continue while appearing more technical and less explicit.\u201d<\/p>\n

It further contended that the practice of ranking people \u201caccording to ideological assumptions about oppression and privilege based on group membership\u201d is flawed.<\/p>\n

\u201cIntersectionality is a main driver of anti-Americanism, anti-capitalism, and antisemitism, yet for federal grantmaking purposes, it exists mostly in the shadows,\u201d said Defense of Freedom Institute President and co-founder Robert Eitel to The Post.<\/p>\n

\n<\/div>\n

\u201cFederal agencies must ensure that grants are used to advance the purposes Congress authorized and address real public needs, not bankroll an ideological framework designed to divide Americans into categories of privilege and oppression.\u201d<\/p>\n

Roughly 100 of the 249 flagged grant obligations appear to be active at the moment. Jacobson\u2019s organizations previously pushed the Trump administration to crack down on diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) as well as critical race theory (CRT) initiatives.<\/p>\n

The two groups are encouraging Trump to take executive action to root out federal funding for intersectionality initiatives. <\/p>\n

\u201cHaving eliminated CRT and DEI from federal grants, the Trump administration should close the Intersectionality loophole and stop federal grantmaking for programs that promote Intersectionality,\u201d Jacobson told The Post. <\/p>\n
