A North Carolina girl was allegedly abducted by her friend\u2019s uncle and forced into the woods \u2014 before she was found in a ditch and chillingly told a good Samaritan that she had been kidnapped. <\/p>\n

The girl, 12, was staying at her neighbor\u2019s home in Lillington \u2013 a town 40 miles southwest of Raleigh \u2013 for a sleepover on Sunday when she was woken up by 38-year-old Daniel Gear, who is accused of terrorizing her, WNCN reported.<\/p>\n

Gear allegedly forced the girl, who hasn\u2019t been identified, into his truck and they drove toward some woodland, where \u201che made her get out\u201d of the vehicle, according to the outlet.<\/p>\n

The girl managed to escape her alleged abductor when Gear parked his truck behind an Erwin Department of Motor Vehicles office \u2014 which is roughly 11 miles away from Lillington \u2014 on Sunday afternoon, police said.<\/p>\n

The DMV lists its office as being closed on Saturday and Sunday. <\/p>\n

Motorist Jennifer Maxwell spotted the girl fleeing the wooded area while she was driving on a stretch of US Highway 421, which runs through the town and in front of the DMV. <\/p>\n

The girl, who was shoeless and covered in scratches, \u201ccame running out of the woods and down the embankment,\u201d Maxwell, a mom of three, told WRAL.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe kind of just dropped in the ditch and was just crying hysterically,\u201d Maxwell said. \u201cI rolled down my window, and I was like, \u2018Baby, are you okay?\u2019 And she was like, \u2018No, I\u2019ve been kidnapped.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd I was like, \u2018Are you serious?\u2019 She was like, \u2018Yes I\u2019m serious. I was kidnapped.\u201d<\/p>\n

The girl said Gear had been \u201cpushing her, grabbing her shoulder and making her walk,\u201d according to Maxwell. <\/p>\n

\u201cShe said they had been walking for a couple of hours,\u201d Maxwell said.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe was very scratched up, like her legs had lines all over them. Either she went through briars or thick brush.\u201d<\/p>\n

Maxwell and the girl went to a local police station to report the alleged kidnapping, but she doesn\u2019t consider herself to be a Good Samaritan.<\/p>\n

\u201cI just thank God that I could be where I was,\u201d she said. \u201cAnd God knows if that girl didn\u2019t get away, what would have happened.\u201d<\/p>\n

She also revealed that she was caught up in a car accident on the same day she picked up the girl.<\/p>\n

Gear was arrested at around 8:15 p.m. Sunday after a seven-hour manhunt, involving drones and K9s. Cops had warned he was armed and dangerous.\u00a0<\/p>\n

He was charged with first-degree kidnapping and assault, and appeared in court for the first time on Monday.<\/p>\n

His next scheduled court date is Sept. 1 and a judge has set his bond at $2.5 million.<\/p>\n

Neighbors horrified by what had unfolded admitted they didn\u2019t really know much about Gear.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe never really came out of the house. He worked from home,\u201d Justin Powers told WNCN.<\/p>\n
