Meghan Markle<\/strong> and Prince Harry<\/strong> arrived in town six years ago with big plans to make it in showbiz. Now they\u2019re starring in \u201cMegxit II: Montecito\u2019s Revenge!\u201d \u2014 and are headed back to the UK with their options exhausted, sources say.<\/p>\n

Hollywood had welcomed the Duke and Duchess of Sussex with open arms \u2014 and wallets \u2014 after they stepped down from the royal family in 2020. Cut to this month, after the duo\u2019s latest producing attempt, a summer Girl Scout documentary called \u201cCookie Queens,\u201d crumbled at the box-office like a stale Samoa.<\/p>\n

Word that the runaway royals are skedaddling back to England elicited emotions from industry insiders yesterday.<\/p>\n

One knowledgeable source shared that several former employees of the duo\u2019s Archewell production outfit remain in touch via text and bond over being unofficial members of the \u201cSussex Survivors\u2019 Club.\u201d<\/p>\n

A showbiz insider familiar with the pair added of their departure: \u201cGood riddance to them\u2026 they have squandered all chances of making money here. [Plus] Harry needs to find a footing in the UK before his brother [Prince William<\/strong>] comes to the throne.\u201d<\/p>\n

We previously reported that the couple\u2019s documentary, \u201cCookie Queens,\u201d went stale at the box office after the couple had appeared at Sundance earlier this year to promote the film. The doc has made $564,847 in two weeks of release. And while no one expected the cutesy project to be a blockbuster, it opened behind a compilation of internet cat videos, \u201cCatVideoFest 2026,\u201d which is now at $800,000. <\/p>\n

But a source close to the pair pointed out regarding the doc: \u201cThe Rotten Tomatoes score is [91%], and it\u2019s numbers should be reviewed in the context of the documentary marketplace,\u201d adding it was, \u201ca good start to the film as part of a broader awareness campaign and audience-building for streaming [and] awards\u2026 It\u2019s the kind of feel-good content the world needs.\u201d<\/p>\n

Away from their latest project, a movie biz source told us that the couple couldn\u2019t drop their tedious royal pretensions in town.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere was a thirst for them to sort of find a way to maintain their royal lifestyle\u2026 in terms of how people interacted with them, and respected them and, you know, how they moved throughout the world. And then I think it all fell apart because they never figured out who they were or who they wanted to be. Like the goalposts kept moving.\u201d<\/p>\n

The insider added: \u201cShe was the more thirsty of the two of them, honestly. Though I think they both wanted to prove a point to the royal family that they could be as meaningful as they believed themselves to be in the UK.\u201d As for Prince Harry, \u201cHe\u2019s not a producer. He doesn\u2019t care about producing things. Like he\u2019s always been about being of service and doing charity and giving back. He\u2019s never had a business idea.\u201d<\/p>\n

They\u2019d allegedly worn out their welcome with famous friends and industry insiders \u2014 after initially palling around with Montecito residents like Oprah Winfrey<\/strong> and Tyler Perry<\/strong>. A source told us: \u201cI don\u2019t know that they\u2019re still friends with Tyler Perry. I don\u2019t think they really talk to Oprah anymore.\u201c Perry had reportedly lent the Sussexes his mansion, private jet and security team when they arrived in the area six years ago.<\/p>\n

They leave town with a Netflix deal that\u2019s limping along after the couple originally negotiated a $100 million pact in 2020, and Markle\u2019s high-profile series, \u201cWith Love, Meghan\u201d (which was used to promote her As Ever goods) not picked up after two seasons. Netflix has also backed out of Markle\u2019s As Ever brand.<\/p>\n

They also came to town and signed a $25 million deal with Spotify, but then \u201cmutually agreed to part ways\u201d in 2023 after just one season of Markle\u2019s podcast \u201cArchetypes.\u201d<\/p>\n

Page Six reported last year that Markle was also dropped by WME, according to multiple sources, after months of speculation about her relationship with the top Hollywood agency. An industry insider said at the time that Markle, 45, was \u201ctoo demanding\u201d and \u201cdifficult to work with.\u201d<\/p>\n

The agency denied giving Markle the royal flush back then, and said at the time it was still working with her by stating: \u201cWME continues to represent Meghan and Archewell.\u201d<\/p>\n

But we\u2019d heard that the onetime \u201cSuits\u201d star had not held any meetings with top WME powerbroker Ari Emanuel<\/strong> since early 2024. (Though she was believed to have met with her day-to-day agents.)\u00a0 \u201cAri was done with her,\u201d said an insider. Markle had an outburst in January 2024, Page Six reported, when the duchess demanded a meeting \u201cand expected decks and plans.\u201d<\/p>\n

A different source told us yesterday upon hearing the news Markle was heading back to the UK that in 2024, Emanuel \u201cpersonally sent an email to Harry and Meghan, [saying], you\u2019re nitpicking this team that we put together for you. I\u2019ve looked over the work, and everything they\u2019ve done for you. I\u2019m content and happy with it. We\u2019re not the right fit.\u201d<\/p>\n

Said a source of the agency: \u201cThey stopped working together. Nobody was working on Meghan\u2019s stuff.\u201d <\/p>\n

But a source also said that Markle remained close with her other agents at WME. (Sources had previously told us that the agency brought in Markle in 2023 due to her relationship with another client, Serena Williams<\/strong>.) The agency still technically reps the couple\u2019s Archewell Prods. <\/p>\n

Meghan\u2019s original team was\u00a0Brad Slater<\/strong>\u00a0and Jill Smoller<\/strong>.\u00a0She is currently handled by\u00a0Carolyn Moneta<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Ikenna Ezeh<\/strong>, (the latter reps\u00a0Jonathan Majors<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Lupita<\/strong> Nyong\u2019o<\/strong>), but mostly for acting opportunities.)<\/p>\n

Then again, Meghan has a movie coming up! But she plays herself, we hear. The film, \u201cClose Personal Friends,\u201d starring Brie Larson, Jack Quaid<\/strong> and Lily Collins<\/strong>, follows, \u201cTwo couples \u2014 one famous, one not \u2014 who meet in Santa Barbara and become fast friends.\u201d<\/p>\n

Pals close to the couple told us of the UK move: \u201cThey are spending more time there this fall after a lovely visit this summer. They want their kids to experience more of it and to spend more time with extended family and friends.\u201d Righty-ho! <\/p>\n

They\u2019re also likely listing their Montecito mansion, The Post reported. <\/p>\n

Page Six also reported that Harry and Meghan are moving back to the UK to be closer to King Charles<\/strong> \u2014 and to ensure their children build relationships with the royal family. But that the \u201cfrost\u201d between Prince William and Harry endures, and the heir to the throne refuses to talk to his younger bro.<\/p>\n

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex made their plans to leave California earlier this month, weeks after their July reunion with the ailing King Charles. <\/p>\n
