The Buccaneers\u2019 quarterback revealed that he has reconnected with his family after a nasty $12 million lawsuit spilled out into the public eye.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn the past few months, I\u2019ve been reconnected with my family,\u201d Mayfield told the Tampa Bay Times. \u201cIt\u2019s been good. Also, for them to have two grandbabies, it\u2019s tough.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat\u2019s in the past is in the past. (Wife) Emily and I took (daughter Kova) down right around her first birthday. \u2026 First time they met her, and you (could) tell it just melted them.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mayfield and his family had a falling out in recent years regarding whether $12.2 million had been misappropriated by an investment firm that includes family members from 2018-21.<\/p>\n

The ex-Oklahoma star and his wife, Emily, filed a court petition in 2023 to investigate how Camwood Capital Management Group and its subsidiaries used those funds.<\/p>\n

His father, James, is the senior managing director and founder of Camwood, and his brother, Matt, is listed as a managing director.<\/p>\n

\u201cFrom January 2018 through the present, more than $12 million was transferred from Petitioners\u2019 personal account(s) and routed through various entities and investments,\u201d the court filing read.<\/p>\n

\u201cPetitioners have been unable to account for, or obtain information about, the current location and\/or status of those funds.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mayfield said that November that the petition had been a \u201clong time coming\u201d and he had \u201cbeen dealing with that stuff for years now.\u201d<\/p>\n

The star quarterback escalated the situation in 2024 when he sued Camwood Ventures and its subsidiaries.<\/p>\n

The lawsuit alleged the sides reached a confidential agreement earlier in the year reportedly for $11.7 million plus interest, but the pact had not been fulfilled.<\/p>\n

The settlement reportedly also included a refinancing of a loan to aide Mayfield receiving the money, plus access to the company\u2019s financial records.<\/p>\n

\u201cTo date, Camwood Capital has not repaid even one dollar under the Settlement Agreement, Defendants have failed to refinance their existing loan, and Defendants have not provided Plaintiffs with access to their books and records,\u201d the suit read. \u201cAs a result, Plaintiffs have been left with no choice but to file suit for breach of the Settlement Agreement to recover the assets improperly taken from them.\u201d<\/p>\n

The case was voluntarily dismissed on March 11, 2025, seemingly setting up the opportunity for the family to repair the harm that had been done.<\/p>\n

Mayfield seems to be in a much better spot with his family now, continuing what has been a trend for him after a rocky start to his career.<\/p>\n

The No. 1 pick in the 2018 NFL Draft could not be the savior that Cleveland hoped \u2014 not that he\u2019s the only one who\u2019s failed in this regard \u2014 before eventually finding a home with the Buccaneers.<\/p>\n

He led Tampa Bay to the playoffs in each of his first two seasons before they missed the postseason last year with an 8-9 mark while he battled injuries.<\/p>\n

Mayfield and his wife welcomed their second child, son Maverick, in April.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou can\u2019t put yourself on a pedestal and act like I haven\u2019t made mistakes in my life,\u201d he told the Tampa Bay Times. \u201cI had the ability to forgive and that was what I wanted to get across. But we\u2019re here and the door is open. The past few months, (my family and I) have made good progress and began reconnecting.\u201d<\/p>\n
