David Krumholtz is \u201cfrustrated, fed up, fried\u201d after more than 30 years in Hollywood.<\/p>\n

The \u201cOppenheimer\u201d actor, 48, declared that he is taking an \u201cindefinite break\u201d from acting as he took issue with how actors are treated and fears that he could go \u201cbroke.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cI kinda sorta put my acting career on hold the other day. It\u2019s been something I\u2019ve been petrified to do for years,\u201d Krumholtz wrote in a now-deleted post on Threads Monday. \u201cSpecifically, the fear was that I\u2019d go broke and not be able to handle being out of the game.\u201d<\/p>\n

Instead, the New York City-born star \u2014 also known for \u201cThe Santa Clause\u201d and \u201cNumb3rs\u201d \u2014 said he \u201csent the definitive email\u201d to call it quits and felt a sense of relief.<\/p>\n

\u201cA huge wave of relief washed over me,\u201d he wrote. \u201cNot sure what I\u2019m going to do for money instead, or how I\u2019m going to do it, but I just removed a humongous burden, one that I truly didn\u2019t fathom the weight of until it was gone.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cFrustrated, fed up, fried,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Krumholtz said he has spent the past year fighting for roles he believes offer less money and opportunity despite his decades of experience.<\/p>\n

\u201cExploitative art isn\u2019t art. And artists deserve a fair pay percentage for work that assists their employers in making profits,\u201d he wrote.<\/p>\n

Krumholtz also claimed the business has changed significantly since he started acting as a teenager in the early 1990s.<\/p>\n

\u201cPay was fair. And the momentum could be built. And while talent was never a surefire marker of success \u2026 if you helped make a Studio money, you were guaranteed to get another opportunity to do so,\u201d he wrote.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut with conglomerate corporatizing of Hollywood, those unwritten rules of mutual respect have shifted \u2026 Drastically. I\u2019m being asked to \u2018hang in there\u2019 by my own union and reps.\u201d<\/p>\n

The \u201cSupergirl\u201d actor admitted he is also tired of being expected to promote himself on social media to get work.<\/p>\n

\u201c[I\u2019m] asked to reinvent myself on social media for likes and follows so that I can be considered for fan conventions and internet ads just so I can make the money that simply acting on a TV show or film or stage refuses to pay me anymore,\u201d he wrote.<\/p>\n

\u201cI, along with many talented folks, not just actors, are being mass demoted. Imagine you excel in your career for 34 years, just to be drastically demoted for it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Krumholtz said he is still willing to act if the right opportunity comes along.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf you want to work with me as an actor, I am interested. If you believe in what I can do as an actor, I believe in you,\u201d he wrote.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf you simply don\u2019t, if you think you\u2019ve seen all I can do and it\u2019s just not enough for you, that\u2019s fine, so I\u2019ll just stop begging. I\u2019m not above begging for financial security. But what\u2019s the point of begging for none?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a goddamn shame, but I have to be responsible for what I can control and change and that\u2019s me and my heart,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

\u201cI can give of myself willingly, elsewhere. I can still act. I can act to make an impact, rather than a measly buck. And that\u2019s my choice. And that\u2019s exactly what I plan to do.\u201d<\/p>\n

Krumholtz also starred in \u201c10 Things I Hate About You\u201d and the \u201cHarold & Kumar\u201d franchise, and continued working this year with a role in the upcoming film \u201cMr. Irrelevant: The John Tuggle Story.\u201d<\/p>\n

He portrayed Isidor Isaac Rabi in Christopher Nolan\u2019s blockbuster film, \u201cOppenheimer,\u201d in 2023.<\/p>\n

In June, Krumholtz told Page Six that his\u201cThe Santa Clause\u201d residuals have dwindled to an estimated \u201c$150 a year\u201d from the franchise.<\/p>\n

Krumholtz played head elf Bernard in the 1994 holiday hit starring Tim Allen, returned for the 2002 sequel, skipped the 2006 third film and came back for the 2022 Disney+ series.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey\u2019re minimal because the movie plays so much,\u201d he said. \u201cThis is how residuals work: Every time it plays, you make less. It\u2019s a grade scale.\u201d<\/p>\n
