Hayden Panettiere\u2019s estranged mother, Lesley Vogel,\u00a0has broken her silence on the actress\u2019 tragic death at 36.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think Hayden was an amazingly talented person in so many departments and I think young people who grow up in the entertainment industry \u2014 it is a struggle and it\u2019s a very challenging industry and it\u2019s not unusual for them to sadly find the wrong path,\u201d Vogel told NBC News Tuesday.<\/p>\n

The grieving mother went on to slam her daughter\u2019s on-again, off-again boyfriend, Brian Hickerson, who was with Panettiere at the time of her death. <\/p>\n

\u201cThis person in her life that we have been trying to get rid of for quite some time was with her at her death and that was Brian Hickerson,\u201d Vogel said. <\/p>\n

Vogel told the outlet that she has very little information about the investigation into the actress\u2019s heartbreaking passing, but that she is planning to speak with a detective. <\/p>\n

Panettiere was found dead\u00a0at a luxury apartment complex in Greenville, South Carolina on Aug. 16 after\u00a0an apparent \u201coverdose,\u201d\u00a0according to 911 audio obtained by Page Six.<\/p>\n

That same day, Hayden\u2019s father, Skip Panettiere,\u00a0confirmed \u201cthe tragic passing\u201d with \u201cprofound sadness\u201d in a statement to Page Six.<\/p>\n

A police report obtained by Page Six revealed Panettiere \u2014 who struggled with \u201csevere health issues\u201d in recent months \u2014 was taking a \u201cbag of medication\u201d at the time of her death. The types of medications were redacted from the report. <\/p>\n

The report also revealed that Brian and his brother, \u00a0Zach Hickerson,\u00a0were with Panettiere at the time of her passing. According to the report, Brian \u201cdid not become emotional\u201d until Panettiere was officially declared dead. <\/p>\n

A source told Page Six that Brian \u2014 who admitted to \u201cabusing her\u201d during their relationship \u2014 came back into Panettiere\u2019s life just two weeks before her death. <\/p>\n

Panettiere and Vogel had a very tumultuous relationship, and were not on speaking terms leading up to the \u201cNashville\u201d star\u2019s death.<\/p>\n

In her memoir, \u201cThis Is Me: A Reckoning,\u201d released in May, Hayden made various claims about her relationship with her mom, who previously managed her career.<\/p>\n

While promoting the novel with a candid interview on the \u201cJay Shetty\u201d podcast, Hayden recalled the moment she finally worked up the \u201ccourage\u201d to \u201csplit\u201d from her \u201cboss\u201d\u00a0when she was 19 years old.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe came into my trailer during lunch when we were filming \u2018Heroes,\u2019 and I said to her, \u2018I don\u2019t want us to work together anymore; I just want you to be my mom,\u2019\u201d Hayden recalled telling Vogel, who allegedly replied, \u201cYou owe me.\u201d<\/p>\n

The actress admittedly \u201cwasn\u2019t expecting\u201d that reaction.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd that\u2019s all she said, and she walked out,\u201d Hayden shared. \u201cAnd part of me was like, \u2018Oh, I\u2019m relieved that it was short, like, rip the Band-Aid off.\u2019 But then it was like this dark looming cloud over my head going, \u2018What does she mean by I owe her? What form of payment is she expecting?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

According to the Golden Globe nominee, she later \u201cfound out\u201d that her mom just wanted \u201cmoney.\u201d<\/p>\n

The \u201cRemember the Titans\u201d star recalled being \u201cdisappointed\u201d that Vogel, now 70, \u201cdidn\u2019t pursue\u201d a mother-daughter relationship with her after that.<\/p>\n

When asked about the status of their relationship today, the actress lamented that they are \u201csadly\u201d estranged.<\/p>\n

Though Hayden was \u201cincredibly grateful\u201d for her mother\u2019s guidance early in her career, she claimed Vogel\u00a0had high expectations of her and was difficult to please as both a manager and parent.<\/p>\n

Hayden also recalled the \u201cvery strange\u201d and \u201cuncomfortable\u201d \u201crole reversal\u201d of her \u2014 a child and then teenager \u2014 contributing financially to the family unit.<\/p>\n

However, Vogel hit back at her \u201centitled\u201d daughter\u2019s claims in her tell-all book in an exclusive interview with Page Six. <\/p>\n

Vogel told us on May 14 that she believes \u201cthe present drama is partially to sell books.\u201d<\/p>\n

She went on to say, \u201cThere is a personality \u2018style\u2019 which manifests as a need for control, entitlement and a lack of empathy. The major fear is that someone will see through the mask they present to the world and discover who they truthfully are.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to Vogel, \u201cthis condition cannot be \u2018fixed\u2019\u201d regardless of \u201ccontinual efforts to support\u201d or \u201ccomfort.\u201d No matter the \u201cencouragement given, it will never be enough.\u201d<\/p>\n

Vogel, a former actress, claimed \u201cthis personality style does not accept responsibility for life choices and therefore feels they have no need to alter their behavior.\u201d<\/p>\n

The former soap opera star sadly also lost her other child, Jansen Panettiere. The 28 year-old died unexpectedly on Feb. 19, 2023 from\u00a0cardiomegaly (an enlarged heart)\u00a0coupled with\u00a0aortic valve complications.<\/p>\n

During her Jay Shetty interview, Hayden said she used to feel \u201cvery guilty\u201d that her career affected how much time she and her mom could spend with Jansen and Skip.<\/p>\n

\u201cI remember [Vogel] actually turning to me one night and saying, \u2018You\u2019re the reason why I\u2019m missing my son growing up.\u2019 And that was a punch in the gut,\u201d Hayden claimed.<\/p>\n
