WASHINGTON \u2014 Sen. Darline Graham advanced to the Aug. 25 runoff election in the special GOP primary to hold onto her late brother\u2019s Senate seat following his abrupt death last month.<\/p>\n

Darline (R-SC), who was appointed to fill out the remaining months of Lindsey Graham\u2019s (R-SC) seat in an interim capacity last month, had President Trump\u2019s backing in the crowded primary.<\/p>\n

She\u2019ll face Rep. Ralph Norman (R-SC), who emerged from the crowded field with the second-place slot.<\/p>\n

As of 11 p.m. ET, Graham led with 33% of the GOP primary vote compared to Norman\u2019s 24%. Since no one reached the 50% threshold, a runoff is required in two weeks.<\/p>\n

Graham and Norman beat out several contenders, including former South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford (R), Rep. Russell Fry (R-SC), businessman Mark Lynch, and more, in the election for a full six-year term.<\/p>\n

Graham honored her brother during her victory speech, while pledging to work hard to win over South Carolina voters in this final stretch. <\/p>\n

\u201cThis past month has been brutal,\u201d a grieving Graham told reporters about her transition from sister to candidate. \u201cToday is the 11th. My brother passed one month ago today, so none of this has been comfortable for me.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut like I said, I\u2019m a fighter. I have buried my precious brother. I have taken on the role of the United States senator, and I have had this brutal campaign schedule, and I\u2019m still standing. If that doesn\u2019t tell you I\u2019m a strong person and a fighter, nothing will. So I think I can handle the next two weeks.\u201d<\/p>\n

She said she\u2019s open to debating Norman and thanked Trump for his support.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe has my complete and total endorsement \u2026 right from the beginning,\u201d Trump said during a tele-rally for Darline Monday evening. \u201cShe fully supports the Trump agenda and will help us achieve our mission.<\/p>\n
