A controversial Michigan Senate nominee made a wild claim about President Trump\u2019s marriage to first lady Melania Trump, calling their relationship \u201crocky\u201d during a TV appearance Sunday.<\/p>\n

Abdul El-Sayed railed on CNN\u2019s \u201cState of the Union,\u201d a day after the president posted a photo of the Trumps alongside a shot of the candidate and his wife, Sarah Jukaku.<\/p>\n

The side-by-side pics were posted under the caption \u201cTwo VERY DIFFERENT America\u2019s (sic).\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cActually, Sarah and I like each other,\u201d El-Sayed told host Jake Tapper. \u201cI don\u2019t know about the first lady and the president, but, from what I have heard, it\u2019s a bit of a rocky road.\u201d<\/p>\n

El-Sayed, a self-described progressive who was not endorsed by the Democratic Socialists of America, narrowly defeated moderate Rep. Haley Stevens (D) in the Michigan Democratic Senate primary last week.<\/p>\n

The remarks come as Donald and Melania Trump have been married since 2005 and have one son, Barron, together.<\/p>\n

El-Sayed and his wife, both medical doctors, have been married since 2006 after meeting as students at the University of Michigan and becoming engaged as freshmen.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The pair now have two daughters together, Emmalee and Serene, and live in Ann Arbor.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The leftist also sarcastically agreed with Trump\u2019s post, and said he was right about the pair representing very different Americas.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah, he\u2019s right \u2014 you\u2019ve got two different visions of America \u2014 one in which your overlords are two people who don\u2019t like each other but joint in the interest of making billions of dollars off of you,\u201d El-Sayed told Tapper.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cOr two people who genuinely love each other, enjoyed some pancakes together, want to come together to build the kind of America where they can raise a family, and know that that family is going to have the good things,\u201d El-Sayed added.<\/p>\n

He added that Trump\u2019s version is the current reality Americans are living in now, pointing to rises in everyday costs like gas and groceries, and questioned whether parents can honestly tell their kids they\u2019ll have it better than they did.<\/p>\n

If elected in November, El-Sayed would become the first Muslim senator in US history.\u00a0<\/p>\n
