Your wings are going digital.<\/p>\n

Another Wingstop location supposedly just took cash off its menu as the chain pushes for cashless stores \u2014 and customers are outraged over it. <\/p>\n

The move toward contactless payment started in 2022, when Wingstop rolled out its first \u201crestaurant of the future.\u201d<\/p>\n

The prototype was in Dallas, Texas and smaller than its typical stores \u2014 only 1,300 square feet. <\/p>\n

While customers may have missed the cash-free store\u2019s launch four years ago, a recent social media post reignited the flame. <\/p>\n

In an X post by @ClownWorld, a six-second clip shows an employee \u2014 at an undisclosed location \u2014 taping a sign to alert customers that the location will no longer accept cash.<\/p>\n

The X post reads, \u201cSome spots straight up will not take your cash anymore. Card or app only. No exceptions. One customer in North Carolina said they tried to pay with ones and fives and got turned away completely.\u201d<\/p>\n

Wingstop fans and keyboard warriors did what they know best and sounded off in the comments. One poster questioned the legality of going digital as our green says cash is king.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cFunny. On the front of any bill it states that it\u2019s legal tender for ALL debts, public and private\u2026therefore doesn\u2019t it HAVE to be accepted?\u201d The commenter asked.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Another agreed adding, \u201cI thought that was illegal? Stores don\u2019t dictate what money is.\u201d<\/p>\n

A third boycotted the joint entirely, writing, \u201cGood luck staying in business Wingstop, I\u2019ll never eat there again, just like I haven\u2019t supported a single business past the first time they told me they don\u2019t take cash, I\u2019ll never be back.\u201d<\/p>\n

Some folks are also afraid that by removing bills, the systems used for swiping credit cards or even big banks will tack on processing fees. <\/p>\n

\u201cLook at the billions of dollars banks make on \u2018processing fees\u201d alone. By moving to cashless payments, EVERYTHING we buy will have a transaction fee paid to the banks making them even more money than they already make,\u201d the commenter said.<\/p>\n

The Post reached out to Wingstop for comment and a list of locations that have started going digital but have not heard back.<\/p>\n

So what happens next? <\/p>\n

Well, according to the press release from 2022, cash may be on its way out of all stores. The chain said its prototype was meant to be digital-focused for ordering which aims to help \u201cdeliver on Wingstop\u2019s goal of digitizing 100% of transactions.\u201d<\/p>\n

The company\u2019s store also had QR codes in restaurants for quick ordering and of course a \u201ctotally cashless environment.\u201d This means transactions will be done using credit, debit cards or cash apps like Apple Pay.<\/p>\n

While the digital-first move has caused a bit of online chaos, not everyone was quick to judge. Some folks even praised the cashless pivot as the green can be dirty and lead to theft.<\/p>\n
