His lawyers are now working to have the case formally wiped from his record.<\/p>\n<p>During the hearing, Butler\u2019s defense team seemed to proclaim the teen\u2019s innocence, irking lawyer Jeremiah Gregory, who was sworn in as district attorney for Oklahoma\u2019s District 9, which encompasses Stillwater.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cToday\u2019s hearing included disingenuous assertions from the defense regarding the defendant\u2019s innocence, that he was the victim in this matter, and that the victim\u2019s assertions were false,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNothing has made my blood boil more. I did not know this was going to be allowed, nor did the defense attorney reveal he intended to make any kind of statement. The statements made in court were inappropriate to say the least and I will not remain silent without contradicting such assertions.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In his blistering rebuke, Gregory vowed to uphold Oklahoma\u2019s \u201cdouble jeopardy\u201d clause \u2013 which means a person cannot be prosecuted by the state twice for the same offense after being convicted.<\/p>\n<p>But he said he would submit the case for federal review.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI cannot undo what has already been done, but I can \u2013 and will \u2013 continue to stand as a strong voice for all victims of violent crime.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Butler\u2019s lawyer, Derek Chance, admitted the bid to get the crime wiped from the teen\u2019s record would be challenging, the Oklahoman reported.<\/p>\n<p>Rachel Bussett, who represented the family of one of Butler\u2019s victims, was left disappointed by the outcome \u2013 and also scolded Chance.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe was basically saying that Butler was the victim and that he was innocent and that there was video evidence that demonstrated this \u2015 and that\u2019s just not the truth,\u201d she told the Oklahoman.<\/p>\n<p>She alluded to a video an officer found during the investigation which showed Butler \u201cstrangling [his victim] until unconsciousness,\u201d which was cited in an affidavit seen by The Post.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHis attorney claims that the video shows this was consensual,\u201d Bussett said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut the fact of the matter is that you cannot consent to strangulation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Bussett hasn\u2019t ruled out the victims\u2019 families pursuing civil cases against Stillwater High, the city itself, and the Butlers.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/metrotransitreview.com\/?p=6261\">Can CBS actually use the morals clause to void Tony Romo\u2019s contract after OWI arrest? Lawyers weigh in<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Butler was 17 when he was charged as an adult with 10 felony counts, including rape, attempted rape, sexual battery and assault involving two high school students.<\/p>\n<p>He initially pleaded not guilty before striking a sweetheart deal that saw his status change to a youthful offender. He then switched his plea to no contest.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Oklahoma\u2019s Youthful Offenders Act 1994 allows those under 18 who are charged with serious crimes \u2013 except first-degree murder \u2013 to be prosecuted as a juvenile.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Butler was sentenced to one year of rehabilitation and community service, and this sentence was branded a \u201ccomplete injustice\u201d by the family of one of his victims, while the other labeled it a \u201cjoke.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Butler was accused of sexually assaulting one of his ex-girlfriends on Groundhog Day in 2024 \u2013 days after they had started dating, according to court docs.<\/p>\n<p>The girl \u201cyelled and told him [Butler] \u2018no\u2019 repeatedly and tried to push him off of her, but was unable to overpower him.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He was accused of strangling the girl \u201cto the point of unconsciousness\u201d following another altercation that happened at a Walmart parking lot.<\/p>\n<p>The girl claimed he was laughing at her when she regained consciousness \u2013 and also revealed she had to undergo surgery.<\/p>\n<p>Butler was accused of assaulting his second victim in the spring and summer of 2024.\u00a0<\/p>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<p>He strangled the girl to the point of \u201cunconsciousness\u201d while housesitting.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe could not breathe, scratched at his arms, and tried to get away, but could not free herself,\u201d the documents claimed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe described feeling coerced to comply to avoid being hurt,\u201d the girl alleged, claiming Butler wanted to have sex every day.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/metrotransitreview.com\/?p=6259\">Kentucky bride-to-be marrying brother of boy who saved her life with organ donation 20 years ago<\/a><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Convicted Oklahoma rapist Jesse Butler\u2019s case ended in court this week \u2013 but a newly elected district attorney scolded the teen\u2019s defense after the hearing after they tried to proclaim his innocence, claiming, \u201cNothing has made my blood boil more.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":6264,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[6],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-6265","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-us-news"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.6 -
