Sen. John Fetterman doubled down on his support for Israel in an interview with comedian Jon Stewart, who questioned what makes Israel the pol\u2019s red line \u2014 inflammatorily saying, \u201cThat is not our country.\u201d<\/p>\n

In a preview clip for Stewart\u2019s podcast \u201cThe Weekly Show,\u201d Stewart asked the Democratic Pennsylvanian why he insists that left-leaning Democratic candidates, specifically members of the Democratic Socialists of America, support Israel.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou could agree with them 90%, but Israel is the red line?\u201d Stewart asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cAbsolutely,\u201d the Pennsylvania Dem replied. \u201cI can\u2019t ever turn my back to Israel after where it\u2019s at.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI mean no disrespect on this, but that is not our country,\u201d Stewart said. <\/p>\n

\u201cYou\u2019re saying that these candidates may have great ideas for our economy. They may want to do the exact same thing you want to do, in terms of getting money out of politics. They may want to increase the social safety net. They may want to change the balance of power from capital back to labor, but if they don\u2019t agree with you on Israel, you don\u2019t want them in your party?\u201d<\/p>\n

Fetterman pushed back, saying, \u201cWell, I don\u2019t know who you\u2019re referencing to, specifically.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cNo, I\u2019m referencing what you just said,\u201d Stewart replied.<\/p>\n

When Fetterman challenged Stewart to \u201cname one\u201d politician who meets those qualifications, Stewart listed Dr. Abdul El-Sayed, a progressive who won the Michigan Senate primary on Wednesday; Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY); and Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.).<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat I\u2019m saying is, like, if you are a DSA member, if you are a member of a specific political party, run under your own banner,\u201d Fetterman said, insisting that socialists should not run as Democratic candidates.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s just an organization. We have a two-party system. It\u2019s like the Freedom Caucus in the Republican Party,\u201d Stewart responded. \u201cEven like [Mayor Zohran] Mamdani in New York is DSA, but there are things in the DSA platform that he disagrees with.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd I\u2019m assuming there\u2019s probably things in the Democratic platform that you might disagree with but you don\u2019t disavow the entire thing. You\u2019re literally saying, \u2018We can all have discussions, except when it comes to Israel,\u2019 which is not America. It seems like a weird line to draw,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Fetterman disagreed, saying, \u201cWell, I don\u2019t think that\u2019s weird, I think what history demonstrates is that when people \u2026 turn their back to the Jewish community, things end really badly.\u201d<\/p>\n

Stewart did a double take, jumping in: \u201cJewish community and Israel are not the same thing, brother man. That is not the same thing.\u201d<\/p>\n

Fetterman again insisted, \u201cI\u2019m always gonna stand with Israel and I\u2019m always gonna vote and support whatever\u2019s necessary to protect themselves and to prosecute Hamas, Hezbollah and Iran, too.\u201d<\/p>\n

The senator \u2013 who has frequently clashed with the far-left of his party over their views on Israel and socialism \u2013 then argued that far-leftists \u201cnever said a peep\u201d after Iran killed pro-democracy protesters.<\/p>\n

Stewart questioned, \u201cYou think that the left is pro-Iran, not the country, but the regime?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat I\u2019m saying though is like if anyone in the Democratic Party is fine with Iran building a nuclear bomb, I disagree with that person,\u201d Fetterman replied.<\/p>\n

Stewart responded, \u201cI think most people are \u2013 again, I think you\u2019re caricaturing the issue.\u201d<\/p>\n

Fetterman has repeatedly threatened to leave the Democratic Party over its declining support of Israel and bashed members of the DSA, recently calling Mamdani a \u201cclown\u201d for calling for the arrest of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu during his visit to the Big Apple.<\/p>\n
