Kurt Cobain\u2019s widow Courtney Love once demanded that the entire police file on his death be handed over to her, with no copies left at the Seattle Police Department, according to a newly unearthed document.<\/p>\n

The Nirvana frontman\u2019s widow made the stunning request Oct. 20, 1995 \u2014 about a year and a half after her 27-year-old musician husband was found dead with a gunshot wound to the head in a greenhouse at their Seattle mansion.<\/p>\n

Investigators had declared Cobain\u2019s death a suicide from the outset, a conclusion Love concurred with \u2014 but a group of researchers who believe it was a homicide have been campaigning for years to get the case reopened.<\/p>\n

Now it has emerged that a lawyer acting for Hole frontwoman Love wrote a letter to then-Seattle Chief of Police Norm Stamper in 1995 seeking all of the investigation files regarding her husband\u2019s death.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis letter is to request that the complete investigation file of the Seattle Police Department pertaining to Mr. Cobain\u2019s death be delivered to me, with no further records or copies to remain with the Department,\u201d Love\u2019s lawyer, Bryan Coluccio, wrote in the missive, which was discovered by researchers for the \u201cWho Killed Kurt?\u201d investigative group.<\/p>\n

\u201cI confirm on behalf of Mr. Cobain\u2019s estate and Ms. Love-Cobain that they are satisfied that the Seattle Police Department performed a complete and thorough investigation into Mr. Cobain\u2019s death,\u201d Coluccio said.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur clients agree with and accept, without any reservation, the Department\u2019s final determination that Mr. Cobain\u2019s death was a suicide. The matter can be closed.\u201d<\/p>\n

The case file included undeveloped rolls of 35mm still film and Polaroid photos related to the investigation, copies of \u201cpersonal letters\u201d written by Cobain and financial and other \u201cpersonal and private\u201d information.<\/p>\n
