Caitlin Clark addressed the comments made by Sophie Cunningham on trans athletes in women\u2019s sports for the first time following Sunday\u2019s Fever loss to the Lynx.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Fever superstar said very little when she was asked how she and her teammates were navigating the outside noise that has followed them since Cunningham expressed her opinion that trans athletes should not be participating in women\u2019s and girls\u2019 sports in a feature published by ESPN.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI think, for us, it\u2019s not really a discussion we really have in our locker room,\u201d Clark said following Indiana\u2019s 108-100 loss. \u201cI think it\u2019s for leagues and the governing bodies to work with their athletes to find solutions, but our focus is on basketball. That\u2019s what we talk about and how we can get wins, and, obviously, we didn\u2019t do that tonight.\u201d<\/p>\n

An attempted follow-up was quickly shut down by Clark, who said matter-of-factly, \u201cI just answered for you.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Since the profile on Cunningham was published last month, the comments have ignited a firestorm in and around the WNBA. <\/p>\n

The past three games that the Fever played have included demonstrators converging outside the arenas to rally against transgender participation in women\u2019s sports.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Outside Target Center on Sunday, people held signs that said \u201cLove is truth\u201d and \u201cThank you Sophie,\u201d the Associated Press reported.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Activist Riley Gaines was also on hand for the game on Sunday to support Cunningham and posted several photos of herself, including one holding a sign that read \u201cSOPHIE, THANK YOU \u2013 A GIRL MOM.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Lynx coach Cheryl Reeve spoke with Cunningham before the game and then wore a \u201cTrans Kids Belong\u201d shirt on the sidelines. <\/p>\n

She also posted one of her posing with Cunningham, who finished with three points on 1-for-2 shooting from the floor in Sunday\u2019s loss.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Cunningham had told reporters in Portland that she didn\u2019t think the rallies were becoming a distraction for her or her teammates.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI think everyone who knows me personally, they know that I\u2019m full of love. I\u2019m bubbly. I love the people around me,\u201d Cunningham said at the time. \u201cI love basketball. I love inspiring the next generation and doing that in a positive light. And so that doesn\u2019t even cross my mind. Doesn\u2019t cross my teammates\u2019 minds.\u201d<\/p>\n

Prior to Sunday\u2019s loss, the Fever had won five in a row, including the four games following the ESPN feature on Cunningham.<\/p>\n
