Modest Mouse guitarist Simon O\u2019Connor was kicked off the band\u2019s upcoming tour after he allegedly sent inappropriate messages to an underage fan.<\/p>\n

In a shocking Reddit post, an anonymous person shared Instagram DMs O\u2019Connor allegedly sent her after she \u201cliked\u201d a few of his posts days before her 17th birthday.<\/p>\n

In the first message, the musician sent a picture of people playing the game Simon Says that read, \u201cSIMON calls your bluff BUZZ.\u201d<\/p>\n

When the fan \u201cliked\u201d the message with an alien head emoji, O\u2019Connor then allegedly sent a photo of a naked African-American man who was sitting with his legs open.<\/p>\n

He quickly apologized and the fan wrote that it was \u201call good\u201d because she believed O\u2019Connor had been \u201chacked.\u201d<\/p>\n

However, the \u201cAn Eraser and a Maze\u201d singer replied that he wasn\u2019t hacked. <\/p>\n

\u201cWish I was hacked just had a party night and looking at everything with one eye ya know,\u201d he allegedly penned.<\/p>\n

The unnamed fan told O\u2019Connor, 42, to \u201cget a good night of sleep,\u201d to which he replied with a saluting face emoji.<\/p>\n

He then allegedly wrote: \u201cBut you did blindside me with a gaggle of likes and then very little intro besides bikini pics so we are both to blame.\u201d<\/p>\n

After unsending the message, O\u2019Connor allegedly wrote: \u201cI did it again.\u201d<\/p>\n

The fan claimed on Reddit that she has a \u201cvery public\u201d Instagram which includes her age in her bio.<\/p>\n

After she received the \u201cweird\u201d messages, she said she reached out to several people \u201cwithin the indie music fandom and nobody with a platform cared.\u201d <\/p>\n

O\u2019Connor responded to the allegations with a Reddit post of his own.<\/p>\n

\u201cHey, Simon here. I would just like to address some of the conversation on this thread that has come to my attention,\u201d he wrote.<\/p>\n

\u201cFirstly, I would like to just state that I unequivocally oppose any sexual behavior towards minors, as a human and a parent it disgusts me,\u201d O\u2019Connor added.<\/p>\n

The musician claimed that \u201ca person\u201d has been \u201cmessing\u201d with him, allegedly creating multiple social media accounts and deleting them.<\/p>\n

\u201cAfter a long night, I picked my phone up to discover that a similar profile had been interacting (\u2018likes\u2019 to be specific) with some of my instagram posts and stories,\u201d he penned. <\/p>\n

\u201cI assumed that this was the same person I had dealt with before and, with poor judgement, I decided to reach out with a tasteless meme, a sticker that read \u2018Simon calls your bluff,\u2019 and an attempt to indicate that I recognized the \u2018barrage of likes\u2019 and similar photo content from the previous profiles\u2026. Almost a \u2018gotcha,’\u201d O\u2019Connor added.<\/p>\n

The guitarist said after he realized the person he was messaging \u201cwas not the person who I had dealt with before,\u201d he \u201cunsent the messages and immediately ceased communication.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m genuinely sorry to the person who received those messages. They didn\u2019t deserve to be put in that position, and I\u2019m sorry for the stress and attention this has brought them,\u201d he wrote.<\/p>\n

\u201cI know some people will choose not to believe me, and I understand that. I can\u2019t change what\u2019s happened. All I can do is tell the truth, take responsibility for my mistake, and apologize,\u201d O\u2019Connor concluded.<\/p>\n

Page Six has reached out to Modest Mouse\u2019s rep for comment but did not immediately hear back.<\/p>\n

On Friday, Modest Mouse announced that O\u2019Connor would not be joining the band on their forthcoming tour.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe good news is that Seth Jabour of Les Savy Fav will be jumping in to play guitar. We look forward to being out there with you all,\u201d they wrote on Instagram.<\/p>\n

The rock band\u2019s tour kicks off on Aug. 4 in Ojai, California, and will go until Oct. 23 in Sacramento, California.<\/p>\n
