{"id":5887,"date":"2026-08-01T13:40:30","date_gmt":"2026-08-01T13:40:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/metrotransitreview.com\/?p=5887"},"modified":"2026-08-01T13:40:30","modified_gmt":"2026-08-01T13:40:30","slug":"exclusive-far-left-group-funded-by-george-soros-trying-to-silence-9-11-families-anti-mamdani-petition","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/metrotransitreview.com\/?p=5887","title":{"rendered":"Exclusive | Far-left group funded by George Soros trying to silence 9\/11 families&#8217; anti-Mamdani petition"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p>A nonprofit funded by far-left billionaire kingmaker George Soros is trying to silence a surging movement to keep NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani from attending the 25th-anniversary memorial for victims of the 9\/11 attacks at Ground Zero.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/metrotransitreview.com\/?p=5885\">Tanker carrying natural gas through Strait of Hormuz attacked \u2014 as Americans urged to leave Middle East<\/a><\/p>\n<p>September 11th Families for Peaceful Tomorrows put out a statement on Tuesday that sharply contrasted with the views expressed by many other 9\/11 victims\u2019 families. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>It all but accused the Change.org petition of targeting Mamdani because he\u2019s the city\u2019s first Muslim mayor.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe strongly condemn the anti-American accusations and Islamophobic sentiment underlying the effort seeking to prevent him from being at Ground Zero,\u201d said the group.<\/p>\n<p>Soros has funneled $525,000 to the nonprofit since 2016 to help fund lefty causes through his grant-making network Open Society Foundation, records show.<\/p>\n<p>The nonprofit September 11th Familes for a Peaceful Tomorrow \u2013 an affiliate of the deep-pocketed radical advocacy group Tides Center \u2013 was founded by a small group of 9\/11 relatives in 2002 and claims to now have 250 members worldwide. It\u2019s agenda also includes strongly condemning the U.S. and Israeli military\u2019s ongoing attacks on Iran.<\/p>\n<p>Giovanni Galante, the ban-Mamdani petition\u2019s lead organizer, fired back, saying the mayor is not wanted at the ceremony because he supports and engages with terror sympathizers. This includes vile left-wing influencer Hasan Piker, who once said \u201cAmerica deserved\u201d 9\/11, and notorious\u00a0Brooklyn Imam Siraj Wahhaj,\u00a0an unindicted co-conspirator in the 1993 World Trade Center bombing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis has nothing to do with Islam or Mamdani being Muslim,\u201d Galante told The Post. \u201cIt has to do with who he associates with and who he represents.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re not against Muslims; we\u2019re not against Jews; we\u2019re not against anyone,\u201d added Galante, whose 29-year-old wife, Grace, was among the 2,977 innocents killed by al-Qaeda terrorists.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/metrotransitreview.com\/?p=5883\">Exclusive | More 9\/11 families urge defiant Mamdani to stay home for 25th memorial ceremony: Here are their stories<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re against people who are against America \u2013 who want us to suffer or be murdered. The people against the petition don\u2019t have a clear understanding.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The petition has gained serious steam since The Post first reported on the initiative last week. As of Saturday morning more than 62,000 signatures have been collected, and\u00a0Galante estimates thousands are from family members of 9\/11 victims.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve gotten so much support from people I don\u2019t even know,\u201d he said. \u201cEmails, texts showing love and interest in keeping the mayor out of the ceremony.\u201d<\/p>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Councilwoman Joann Ariola (R-Queens) said it\u2019s no shock that Soros \u2014 a Democratic megadonor and serial supporter of ultra-woke causes \u2014 is funding a nonprofit trying to muzzle grieving families.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe voices of 9\/11 families should not be drowned out by billionaire-backed activists and those engulfed by their propaganda campaign,\u201d said Ariola, who represents Belle Harbor and surrounding neighborhoods that lost many residents during the Sept. 11, 2001 terror attack. \u201cThe mayor needs to stay home and sit this one out.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Soros and Open Society Foundation indirectly funneled a combined $37 million to the Working Families Party and at least nine\u00a0left-wing groups whose endorsements and get-out-the-vote groundwork played a pivotal role in helping Mamdani upset ex-Gov. Andrew Cuomo in last year\u2019s Democratic mayoral primary, the Post previously reported. <\/p>\n<p>A spokesperson for Soros and his grant-making network did not return messages.<\/p>\n<p>Charles G. Wolf, who lost his 40-year-old wife Katherine during the Twin Tower attack and signed the petition, ripped the nonprofit opposing it, saying \u201canything that is backed by George Soros is illegitimate.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is not the people speaking,\u201d he added. \u201cThis is George Soros and his billions of dollars trying to cause public strife in America.
