his Board of Peace has reached a \u201chistoric agreement\u201d with Hamas that will result in the \u201ccomplete disarmament\u201d of the terror group in Gaza.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a toward lasting PEACE and SECURITY,\u201d Trump wrote on Truth Social.<\/p>\n<p>The president indicated that \u201call other armed groups\u201d in the Gaza Strip have also agreed to lay down their arms.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis agreement is a critical step towards Gaza finally being governed by a new Palestinian government that will work closely with the Board of Peace to help the Palestinian people,\u201d Trump continued. \u201cAt the same time, Israel will have the security it deserves, with Gaza no longer used as a base for terror attacks.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Disarmament of Hamas marks \u201cmajor milestone in the implementation\u201d of the 20-point plan for peace in the region unveiled last September, the president said.<\/p>\n<p>The deal was eight months in the making, according to US and Board of Peace officials.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve literally been discussing this with them all the way through today,\u201d a Board of Peace official said, \u201cand the final communication came through the mediators that Hamas has agreed to the final text.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Israel remains \u201cvery skeptical that Hamas will disarm,\u201d a US official noted.<\/p>\n<p>However, the official said the Israeli government is \u201cnot really being asked to do much in the process because this isn\u2019t really a trust deal \u2026 it\u2019s a conditions based deal.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re not asking Israel to do anything other than agree to the 20-point plan that they agreed to initially, and so we\u2019re very confident they will adhere to it,\u201d the US official added. \u201cIf they don\u2019t, obviously President Trump will be very, very disappointed.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Hamas has warned that it won\u2019t disarm if Israel \u201cinterferes\u201d or refuses to withdraw from Gaza.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHamas will not implement any step of the Gaza peace deal if the Israeli occupation forces do not fulfil their obligations under the agreement,\u201d Ghazi Hammad, a spokesman for the terror group, told Al Jazeera.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIsrael will not interfere in the disarmament issue, and the national committee is the one that will carry out this task,\u201d Hammad added.<\/p>\n<p>A US official confirmed that Iran attempted to meddle during negotiations in an effort to keep Hamas from disarming.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIran did try to convince them not to do this deal, but ultimately we were able to overcome that,\u201d the official said.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a eligible for amnesty if it disarms.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIran abandoned Hamas a while ago,\u201d the official said. \u201cThey can\u2019t afford to to keep them going, and I think Hamas realized that they have to do what\u2019s best for themselves and for the people.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe agreement will be carried out in carefully structured phases,\u201d according to Trump.<\/p>\n<p>Once disarmament is completed, Israeli forces will withdraw from the strip and \u201cthe International Stabilization Force will work with a new Palestinian police force to take responsibility for Gaza being safe for its residents and its neighbors.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Hamas\u2019 extensive network of tunnels must also be disclosed and destroyed under the terms of the agreement.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>A Board of Peace official estimated that it may take \u201csomewhere between about 200 days to about 350 days\u201d to decommission all the weapons Hamas and Gaza militias possess.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The phased process will see Gaza cleared of weapons and deemed ready for reconstruction on a \u201csector by sector\u201d basis.\u00a0<\/p>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<p>The Board of Peace official explained that the disarming of the militias will come first.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen we\u2019re talking about militias, we\u2019re talking about groups that have weapons that they\u2019ve acquired over a recent period, while with Hamas, we\u2019re looking at an organization that has an almost a state-like army structure, with tunnels, with production facilities \u2014 capabilities that go well beyond what is a militant group.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The process of disarming Hamas \u201cwill take more time and it needs to be done in a much more careful and detailed manner,\u201d the Board of Peace official added.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Trump thanked his team of negotiators as well as Egypt, Qatar and Turkey for their work on the \u201chistoric breakthrough.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe threat that emerged from Gaza on October 7 will NOT be allowed to rebuild!\u201d the president vowed.<\/p>\n<p>He added, \u201cUnder this agreement, Gaza will finally be in the hands of a new Palestinian government that serves its
