\u201cSquad\u201d Rep. Ayanna\u00a0Pressley\u2019s husband, Conan Harris, is still involved with a real estate firm that locked down a controversial $2 billion deal for the development of a new courthouse in Massachusetts despite a key partner divesting from that company due to ethical concerns.<\/p>\n

Harris had been partners with John Barros in CoJo Real Estate, which was involved in clinching the winning bid for a\u00a040-year lease to build a new courthouse in Springfield, Massachusetts. <\/p>\n

On Wednesday, Barros, the interim executive director for the Massachusetts Convention Center Authority, announced he was divesting from the firm due to an ethics controversy.<\/p>\n

Thus far, Harris hasn\u2019t followed suit even as the firm faces litigation in which two losing bidders raised conflict of interest concerns primarily centered around Barros. <\/p>\n

\u201cNotwithstanding the fact that John did everything right and complied fully with the law, he has determined that the significant public benefits that will come from the Liberty Junction Team\u2019s project \u2026 outweigh his personal interests,\u201c his lawyer said in a statement.<\/p>\n

CoJo Real Estate is part of the Liberty Junction group that won the contract. Harris is the principal on the team.<\/p>\n

Critics argue that Barros\u2019 involvement raised ethical concerns because the Massachusetts Convention Center Authority\u2019s board has members who are also on the agency that selected Liberty Junction. <\/p>\n

Others have questioned whether Pressley\u2019s perch in Congress may have given her husband an advantage on the government contract.<\/p>\n

Harris\u2019 business income was listed as $100,001-$1,000,000 in Pressley\u2019s 2025 , and the couple netted up to $250,000 in rent. The disclosures only provide ranges, not exact figures.<\/p>\n

A hearing on the matter will take place on Aug. 11.<\/p>\n

\u201cToday\u2019s news that John Barros is stepping away from the Springfield courthouse project confirms what we have said from the start: this selection was irrevocably tainted, and no retroactive exit can undo that after the contract is already awarded,\u201d the losing bidders Jeb Balise and Dinesh Patel said in response.<\/p>\n

\u201cSpringfield and the Commonwealth\u2019s taxpayers deserve a fair process that follows the law. For this reason, the only fair remedy is to set aside this award and redo the procurement. Our lawsuit will continue, and we look forward to making our case in court.\u201d<\/p>\n

Pressley (D-Mass.) didn\u2019t face accusations of wrongdoing in the legal suit and doesn\u2019t appear to have been involved in the contract or the selection process. <\/p>\n

The Post contacted Pressley\u2019s office for comment. <\/p>\n
