Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham has spoken out after two teenage fans claimed Seattle Storm co-owner Celeste Keaton berated them as \u201cf\u2014ing insane\u201d over a sign supporting the WNBA star.<\/p>\n

Cunningham described Keaton\u2019s actions inside Climate Pledge Arena in Seattle on Tuesday night as \u201ctruly embarrassing\u201d while praising the young fans for \u201cstanding up for what they believe.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI truly believe there is a safe space and love for EVERYBODY,\u201d she wrote on X on Wednesday night.<\/p>\n

\u201cBiological girls, biological boys, trans women, and trans men. Everyone is welcome at my table! You can disagree and still be kind.\u201d<\/p>\n

She also praised the two girls, adding: \u201cBravo to those girls for standing up for what they believe. You\u2019ll be hearing from me soon yay for gifts.<\/p>\n

\u201cTruly embarrassing of the co-owner. Unfortunately shows the type of leader she is.\u201d<\/p>\n

The two girls were sitting courtside and holding a sign reading, \u201cThank you, Sophie for speaking up for girls!\u201d when Keaton confronted the duo during the Storm\u2019s 105-95 loss to the Fever.<\/p>\n

Keaton allegedly told the girls that \u201cJesus loves everyone\u201d when they voiced their support for Cunningham\u2019s comments opposing transgender women competing in women\u2019s sports, the teens told Brandi Kruse on the Undivided podcast.<\/p>\n

They alleged Keaton then told them, \u201cI hope Jesus can forgive you for what sin you\u2019ve done,\u201d before calling them \u201cf\u2014\u2013 insane\u201d while pointing at her head and adding, \u201cGod can save you,\u201d leaving one of the fans in tears.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve never been yelled at like that,\u201d one of the girls said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve had people hate on me on the internet, but it doesn\u2019t really affect me as much, because it\u2019s people online. But that just caught me by surprise because I thought she was going to be nice, and she started screaming at us, and cussing at us.\u201d<\/p>\n

The teens were also wearing XX-XY shirts, apparel from former gymnast Jennifer Sey\u2019s company named after the male and female chromosome pairings, which says its mission is to protect women\u2019s sports and spaces.<\/p>\n

The girls also said they felt unwelcome throughout the game.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe whole time we were kind of on edge,\u201d one of them said. \u201cI was like, should we put our sign down? I don\u2019t know. The lady sitting right across from us, and the two people sitting beside us, were turning their backs and trying to sit as far away from us.\u201d<\/p>\n

The WNBA has since fined Keaton and suspended her from attending the Storm\u2019s next five home games following the fan confrontation, according to Fox 13 Seattle\u2019s Lauren Helmbrecht.<\/p>\n

Cunningham voiced support for barring transgender athletes from girls\u2019 and women\u2019s sports\u00a0in an ESPN article published earlier this month, saying she wants to protect female athletes while insisting her views do not come from a place of hate.<\/p>\n

\u201cI got a lot of negative feedback about me hating trans. And I\u2019m like, \u2018I never once said that,’\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think that I am here to extend love. But I also think with that love is truth, being honest. And I want to protect young girls in a locker room, or young girls in sport who shouldn\u2019t have to go against biological men.\u201d<\/p>\n
