{"id":5469,"date":"2026-07-27T08:10:18","date_gmt":"2026-07-27T08:10:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/metrotransitreview.com\/?p=5469"},"modified":"2026-07-27T08:10:18","modified_gmt":"2026-07-27T08:10:18","slug":"tiktokker-rebecca-luna-49-ends-life-via-assisted-dying-after-battling-alzheimers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/metrotransitreview.com\/?p=5469","title":{"rendered":"TikTokker Rebecca Luna, 49, ends life via assisted dying after battling Alzheimer&#8217;s"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p>A Canadian influencer battling Alzheimer\u2019s has taken her own life via a form of assisted dying \u2013 after telling her fans in an emotional video she was living in a body that didn\u2019t make her feel comfortable or safe.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/metrotransitreview.com\/?p=5467\">Missing dog reunited with owner after 5 years, found more than 600 miles away<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Rebecca Luna, 49, died \u201cpeacefully.. surrounded by loved ones\u201d at around 1:15 p.m. Saturday, her eldest daughter Maya revealed on a fundraising page.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Luna, a single mom from British Columbia, was diagnosed with young-onset Alzheimer\u2019s last year \u2013 a rare form of dementia that affects people under 65.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>She documented her battle with the illness on social media \u2013 and had a following of more than 90,000 online.<\/p>\n<p>Luna, a mom to two children, ended her life by using medical assistance in dying (MAID) \u2013 a form of assisted suicide that was legalized in Canada in 2016.<\/p>\n<p>Last week, she revealed in a TikTok clip that she brought her date forward to Saturday from August because of her deteriorating health.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPrior to the dates changing for the last year and a half has been legally and medically not my choice,\u201d she told her fans in her final video.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut for the last two weeks I\u2019ve been making the decision. And it\u2019s a hard decision to make, because I\u2019m living in a body that doesn\u2019t feel comfortable, safe, good, nothing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt feels terrible. And so the idea of waiting two weeks felt like too much.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She revealed she would be spending her final days seeing her family and friends.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s been a hard 24 hours obviously. This is not what I wanted. I would have never chosen young onset Alzheimer\u2019s for myself,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s just taken so much from me except for my good looks,\u201d she said, trying to make a joke.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Luna revealed she wanted to have \u201crelief\u2026 and a lack of suffering.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t wanna be dying before I\u2019m 50 but I have had a good life actually,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve had a really traumatic life. I\u2019ve already gone through enough suffering. I\u2019ve suffered enough in this world.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut at the same time, the suffering has brought me to this place of \u2018I really know who I am and I really know that I have a good f\u2013king heart.\u00a0 I\u2019m so loyal. I will fight for you till the end of time.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/metrotransitreview.com\/?p=5465\">Fisherman accused of illegally catching sharks and \u2018wrestling\u2019 them in bizarre videos he shared online<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Luna reflected on her previous battles of growing up in a world of abuse and neglect, and then her battles with addiction \u2013 before being diagnosed with Alzheimer\u2019s.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s a lot for anyone to go through right?\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo be as sober as long as I have and then to get through this disease without even picking up a drink or drug is amazing. Most people can\u2019t do that.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s because I\u2019ve worked my ass off. I didn\u2019t just sit back and go to a meeting and hope that I\u2019d get better. I have been kicking ass.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Luna previously revealed she was given a five to seven year life expectancy after her diagnosis.<\/p>\n<p>Canada passed its MAID law in June 2016 and initially it was only legal for patients facing a terminal illness or imminent death.<\/p>\n<p>The law was expanded in March 2021 and a person\u2019s death didn\u2019t have to be \u201creasonably foreseeable\u201d in order to request the form of assisted dying.<\/p>\n<p>Those who want to receive MAID must be at least 18 years old and be able to make decisions, according to the Canadian government.<\/p>\n<p>They must be eligible for publicly funded health services, make a voluntary request, and give informed consent to receive MAID.<\/p>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Patients must also be suffering from a \u201cgrievous and irremediable medical condition,\u201d according to the government.<\/p>\n<p>In March 2027, the law will be expanded again to include those suffering solely from a mental illness.<\/p>\n<p>Only Canadians can access MAID \u2013 meaning American citizens are excluded.<\/p>\n<p><em>If you are struggling with suicidal thoughts or are experiencing a mental health crisis and live in New York City, you can call 1-888-NYC-WELL for free and confidential crisis counseling.
