Mikie Sherrill.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/metrotransitreview.com\/?p=5435\">Raging DNC boss Ken Martin threw phone at aide\u2019s desk as committee forced to put up HQ as loan collateral: report<\/a><\/p>\n<p>GOP Chairwoman Christine Hanlon on Sunday said Sherrill\u2019s figure was just the tip of the iceberg in the emerging scandal.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey\u2019re indicating it\u2019s over 6,000, but I know it\u2019s more than that,\u201d Hanlon told 77 WABC the \u201cCats Roundtable\u201d program.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo it\u2019s more to come,\u201d she added to host John Catsimatidis.<\/p>\n<p>Sherrill admitted last week that more than 6,000 non-citizens were wrongly added to the Garden State\u2019s voter rolls and approximately 400 of them had actually cast ballots illegally in New Jersey elections between June 2023 and June 2024.<\/p>\n<p>The registering of non-citizens occurred under Sherrill\u2019s predecessor, former Democratic Gov. Phil Murphy, through the NJ Commission on Motor Vehicles\u2019 automatic voter enrollment program when residents apply for an ID.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWow. This is something we\u2019ve been talking about for a long time,\u201d Hanlon said Sunday of the egregious snafu. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey admitted non-citizens were on the voting rolls.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Justice Department has launched a probe into the troubling situation, while state officials and a software vendor blame each other for the scandal. Sherrill\u2019s team has tapped an independent firm, CSG Law, to investigate the fiasco as well.<\/p>\n<p>Sherrill claimed a \u201cserious software error\u201d in the state\u2019s Motor Vehicle System involving French tech company IDEMIA caused the mishap.<\/p>\n<p>But IDEMIA said the state had access to data showing that those individuals were not citizens \u2014 and apparently registered them to vote anyway.<\/p>\n<p>The practice of registering people to vote at DMVs is employed in dozens of other states.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/metrotransitreview.com\/?p=5433\">The team \u2018intriguing\u2019 Stefon Diggs as he draws interest with NFL training camps starting<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cElections come down to a small number of votes. This type of issue cannot be dismissed or pushed aside,\u201d Hanlon said.<\/p>\n<p>New Jersey has had more than a dozen elections with margins of 10 votes or fewer in the past decade, according to Ballotpedia.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFull investigations need to happen, and policy changes need to happen,\u201d Hanlon said. \u201cThe governor of New Jersey is trying to say, \u2018It\u2019s this one glitch, one tiny thing. A software glitch during a short time that allowed this to happen.\u2019 I know that\u2019s not the whole story.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are pushing to expose the rest of the story and really push for policy changes,\u201d she said. \u201cIt is bad policies that lead to these election-integrity issues. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s the main focus for me. It\u2019s the main focus for the RNC [Republican National Committee], and for so many of our Republicans across our state and across the country. We need election integrity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Revelations about the voter-roll disaster in the Garden State come as Republicans in Congress are pushing for more robust election integrity measures at the behest of President Trump.<\/p>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<p>In a recent prime-time address to the nation, Trump claimed that nearly 250,000 non-citizens were registered to vote in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, California and Nevada, with up to 35,152 wrongly enrolled in the Garden State.<\/p>\n<p>Last week, the Republican-led House attached a voter-ID requirement to legislation that would ban members of Congress from trading stocks. The bill passed with full support from Republicans, but all but 13 Democrats opposed it.
