A drunk Florida boater killed a man and dumped his body in a marina\u2019s water during a violent shoving match that broke out aboard his sailboat, where the two had been drinking together on Memorial Day in 2024.<\/p>\n

Kamal Padlowski was found guilty Thursday of murdering Melvin Jimenez during a brawl at the Little Harbor Marina in Ruskin, FL, on May 25, 2024, according to the Hillsborough County State Attorney\u2019s Office.<\/p>\n

Padlowski, 52, shoved Jimenez during the fight, which caused the 47-year-old victim to fall backwards and slam his head onto the dock, leaving him motionless on the fiberglass gangway, officials said. <\/p>\n

Padlowski then grabbed Jimenez\u2019s ankles and dumped him into the awaiting water instead of rendering aid or calling for help. <\/p>\n

\u201cI didn\u2019t know he was unconscious. I didn\u2019t know that he had even fallen,\u201d Padlowski said in court. \u201cI knew he was still a threat to me, and I just wanted to get distance between us.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jimenez suffered vertebral fractures in the fall, which severed both vertebral arteries, physician and pathologist Edward Willey testified in court. Willey claimed Jimenez would have died regardless of whether he was thrown into the water.<\/p>\n

Jimenez died from drowning, the state attorney\u2019s office ruled. <\/p>\n

Padlowski was found guilty by a jury of first-degree murder.<\/p>\n

The two men had only met each other hours earlier at the nearby tiki-themed Sunset Bar and Grill, where they were both celebrating major milestones. <\/p>\n

Jimenez had won a contract to install security cameras with Walmart while Padlowski was engaged the day prior, the Tampa Bay Times reported.<\/p>\n

As the two celebrated, Padlowski playfully commented on Jimenez ordering a vodka, saying the drink was Russian and they call it \u201cwater,\u201d he recalled in court.<\/p>\n

They soon left the bar and made the 10-minute walk to the marina, where they drank aboard the docked sailboat for approximately 40 minutes with Padlowski\u2019s fianc\u00e9e, where they engaged in friendly conversation, according to the outlet.<\/p>\n

Jimenez\u2019s blood alcohol level was measured at .26, over three times the legal limit, the outlet reported. Padlowski\u2019s levels were not revealed, but he claimed to have had \u201ctwo hard iced teas and maybe a shot or two of vodka.\u201d<\/p>\n

The hangout grew sour as the two men launched into a brawl aboard Padlowski\u2019s boat.<\/p>\n

Surveillance cameras facing the dock captured the two men shoving each other while aboard Padlowski\u2019s boat before the fight erupted onto the gangway, according to video obtained by 10 Tampa Bay News.<\/p>\n

Jimenez allegedly threatened to kill Padlowski and rape his unidentified fianc\u00e9e, the killer claimed in court.<\/p>\n

Padlowski claimed self-defense during his murder trial, saying Jimenez had shoved his fianc\u00e9e and lunged at him.<\/p>\n

Prosecutors disputed the claims, revealing the blurry surveillance video captured Padlowski punching Jimenez before grabbing his throat.<\/p>\n

Padlowski remained near his boat armed with two kitchen knives until police arrived at the scene.<\/p>\n

He initially told officers he didn\u2019t know where Jimenez went, unaware that cameras had recorded the entire fight.<\/p>\n

Jimenez\u2019s wife, Angela Sprenger, testified against Padlowski, calling him a liar and a killer.<\/p>\n

\u201cJust unbelievable because I don\u2019t believe a word he says. I think he is a narcissist and a murderer,\u201d she told the court, according to 10 Tampa Bay News.<\/p>\n

\u201cAll the things he was saying was just total lies. And to try to go after my husband\u2019s character that way is just so awful,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n

\u201cAt least he\u2019ll get to spend the rest of his day thinking about my dad and how maybe if he was a better man and had a better character like my dad, he would have made the decisions that he did to lead to this,\u201d Jimenez\u2019s daughter Kimberly testified, according to WFLA.<\/p>\n

Padlowski faces a mandatory life sentence in Florida State Prison, with his sentencing hearing scheduled for August 17. <\/p>\n
