Powerball players in the US vowed that they were \u201cdone\u201d playing the popular lotto game after it reached the shores of the UK amid its international expansion, accusing officials of corruption. <\/p>\n

Jackpot hopefuls say they will play their state lottery games rather than test their luck at winning the massive prize, which now stands at over $600 million following Wednesday\u2019s drawing.<\/p>\n

Wednesday\u2019s draw marked the first time that players in the UK could take part for $5.35 (\u00a34) per line.<\/p>\n

Powerball officials touted that the game\u2019s expansion across the Atlantic would bring in \u201cfaster-growing jackpots\u201d with more players buying into the game.<\/p>\n

Even though UK-based players have to pay more for a ticket, the Powerball expansion has not been welcomed by all.<\/p>\n

\u201cI won\u2019t buy anymore,\u201d Irene Saladrigas wrote on Facebook.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cThis system is so corrupted. A full investigation should be done,\u201d San Diego resident Roy Stevenson blasted online.<\/p>\n

\u201cWon\u2019t be playing it and I guess casinos here we come,\u201d Marjia Jones said in protest.<\/p>\n

\u201cWHAT, I\u2019m done buying!\u201d Terri Curtis fumed.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m done. It\u2019s rigged anyway,\u201d said Brian Nallick as he railed against the overseas expansion.<\/p>\n

The odds of winning the Powerball jackpot are one in 292 million \u2013 and players believe they will have a higher chance of winning state lotto games now the potential pool of winners has been widened.<\/p>\n

\u201cGuess they really don\u2019t want me to play Powerball anymore,\u201d Jesus Martinez, of Irving, Texas, said. \u201cTexas lotto here I come.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s bs, all Americans should stop playing, and just play your state lotteries,\u201d Jay Williams said online.<\/p>\n

One line still costs $2 and jackpot winners can decide how they want to receive their prize.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Powerball winners in the US can either receive their prize as a lump sum or via installments over 30 years.<\/p>\n

In the UK, jackpot winners will receive their prize over 30 years, and if the winner dies during this time, the money will then go to their estate.<\/p>\n

Powerball jackpots in the UK and US are not directly comparable, lotto bosses say.<\/p>\n

The jackpots in the US are listed pre-tax, while in the UK, the prize is listed in pounds sterling post-tax.<\/p>\n

On Saturday, players in the UK will have a chance of winning a \u00a3322 million jackpot \u2013 which is around $430.5 million.<\/p>\n

The lower prizes are also structured differently.\u00a0<\/p>\n

UK players can win an estimated $15 (\u00a311.90) by matching the Powerball alone, compared to $4 in the US.<\/p>\n

UK gamblers can win an estimated $1470 (\u00a31,100) for matching four main numbers \u2013 compared to the base $100 prize in the US.\u00a0<\/p>\n

National Lottery bosses \u2013 the company which operates Powerball in the UK \u2013 have warned that non-fixed prizes may fluctuate depending on ticket sales.<\/p>\n

The largest Powerball jackpot ever won was $2.04 billion in November 2022 \u2013 and it was claimed by Californian player Edwin Castro.<\/p>\n
