Mayor Zohran Mamdani backed down in his efforts to arrest Benjamin Netanyahu in New York City, admitting in a video statement Tuesday night that he doesn\u2019t have the legal authority \u2013 while slamming the Israeli prime minister as an unwelcome \u201cwar criminal.\u201d<\/p>\n

The pro-Palestinian, socialist pol said that despite his administration reviewing \u201cevery avenue available\u201d to find a legal loophole to take Netanyahu into custody, they don\u2019t have the authority in a video posted to X.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s clear we do not have the independent legal authority to enforce this warrant,\u201d a frustrated Mamdani said, referencing an International Criminal Court 2024 warrant for Netanyahu\u2019s arrest over alleged war crimes in Gaza \u2014 an order the US does not recognize.<\/p>\n

The backpedaling comes one day after President Trump blasted the socialist Democrat\u2019s scheme in a post to Truth Social Monday.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cBenjamin Netanyahu will not be arrested, in any way, shape, or form, while in the United States of America,\u201d Trump said in the post, which didn\u2019t name Mamdani.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Netanyahu is scheduled to visit Manhattan in September to attend the United Nations General Assembly.<\/p>\n

Israeli Ambassador to the UN Danny Danon said Mamdani\u2019s threats don\u2019t faze the prime minister.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut it only shows what we are dealing with today, with the elements that seek to instigate, to incite. And Mamdani is one of those forces,\u201d Danon exclusively told The Post.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Danon blasted Mamdani in a scathing post on X: \u201cYou were elected to serve New Yorkers, not Hamas\u2019 propaganda.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Simon Wiesenthal Center noted in a statement that Mamdani\u2019s address made \u201cno mention of Hamas or the October 7 massacre of innocent civilians.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cInstead, he delivered a sweeping moral indictment of Israel while erasing the terrorist atrocities that ignited this war,\u201d the Jewish human rights organization continued.<\/p>\n

\u201cAppeals to universal humanity and justice ring hollow when they exclude the victims whose suffering does not fit a preferred political narrative.\u201d<\/p>\n

Although Hizzoner was forced to wave the white flag Tuesday, he continued to rail against the Israeli prime minister.<\/p>\n

\u201cBenjamin Netanyahu is a war criminal, the architect of a horrific genocide against the Palestinian people,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The anti-Israel mayor \u2014 who has made accusing Israel of genocide in Gaza a focal point of a socialist ideology that has helped thrust him into the national spotlight\u00a0 \u2013 vowed during last year\u2019s campaign that, if elected, he\u2019d have Netanyahu arrested if he ever came to the Big Apple.<\/p>\n

That promise resurfaced Saturday when Mamdani argued that Netanyahu \u201cbelongs in The Hague\u201d during a wide-ranging interview with The New York Times. \u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Mamdani\u2019s wife has also come under fire for controversial comments about the US and Israel.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Rama Duwaji has been accused of liking since-deleted\u00a0social media posts\u00a0praising Palestinian terror groups\u00a0and others attacking US service members for assisting the Jewish state.\u00a0<\/p>\n

And she once liked a social media post claiming Hamas\u2019 brutal rape of Israelis during\u00a0the Oct. 7, 2023, terror attack\u00a0was a \u201cmass hoax.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Mamdani has defended his wife as a private person.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe is her own person,\u201d he said about the Syrian-American artist. \u201cShe is an incredible artist, and yet so much of how she engages with the world is framed through her being my wife.\u201d<\/p>\n
