{"id":4754,"date":"2026-07-18T09:35:48","date_gmt":"2026-07-18T09:35:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/metrotransitreview.com\/?p=4754"},"modified":"2026-07-18T09:35:48","modified_gmt":"2026-07-18T09:35:48","slug":"the-fight-to-take-back-americas-museums-starts-now","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/metrotransitreview.com\/?p=4754","title":{"rendered":"The fight to take back America&#8217;s museums starts now"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p>Excellent: House Republicans have called National Museum of American History Director Anthea Hartig to testify Tuesday about the NMAH\u2019s \u201cpolitical tendentious\u201d exhibits \u2014 in what should be the next step in breaking our cultural institutions out of their painfully woke fever.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/metrotransitreview.com\/?p=4752\">Fast Takes: DSA pins hopes on Michigan, Maine Dems distrust their voters and more<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Delivering on Government Efficiency (DOGE) Chairman Tim Burchett (R-Tenn.) summoned Hartig in the wake of the damning July 4 report laying out how far left her institution has swung.<\/p>\n<p>A small sample:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>It holds \u201cno major exhibit dedicated to America\u2019s Founding era, George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, other Founding Fathers, the Continental Congress, the Pilgrims, the Puritans, or major moments of the American Revolution.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Museum leaders axed the phrases \u201cinfinite richness\u201d and \u201cAmerican history\u201d from its mission statement in order, per Hartig, to \u201cget out of the \u2018America First\u2019 mentality.\u201d\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Yes: The National Museum <em>of American History<\/em> took \u201cAmerican history\u201d out of its mission statement.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Staff are under orders to tie exhibits back to seven \u201ccore issues of our time\u201d: race\/identity, gender\/sexuality, climate change, immigration\/migrations, economic inequality, technological change, and nationalism\/globalism.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Central facts of US history and anything that might bring pride in our country, out; lefty obsessions and America-is-monstrous nonsense, in: It couldn\u2019t be more black and white.<\/p>\n<p>This, in a branch of the Smithsonian that gets 62% of its funding from tax dollars.<\/p>\n<p>Worse, museums across America have gone down this demented path.<\/p>\n<p>In 2020, during the heights of Floyd-a-mania, the National Museum of African American History and Culture produced an online exhibit about \u201cwhiteness\u201d insisting that individualism, hard work, respect for authority and delayed gratification are all somehow \u201caspects of whiteness.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In 2024, the National Park Service moved to take down a statue of William Penn from a key historical site in Philadelphia in favor of an exhibit on Native Americans \u2014 <em>William Penn<\/em>, Pennsylvania\u2019s namesake <em>and<\/em> the guy who fathered the modern idea of pluralism.<\/p>\n<p>Here in New York City, the Natural History Museum famously took down a statue of Theodore Roosevelt as a sop to BLM activists; in 2023 it started warning pregnant and menstruating women to stay away from certain indigenous \u201cobjects of power\u201d entirely so as not to offend Native Americans.\u00a0Other visitors got told not even to <em>look<\/em> at whistles made from bird bones because they might summon spirits \u2014 and then the museum began killing whole exhibits over these issues.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/metrotransitreview.com\/?p=4750\">Todd Blanche will hold Dems accountable for their dirty anti-Trump lawfare<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Museums from New Orleans to Indianapolis bent the knee and scurried to engage in race-based hiring and acquisition quotas under the guise of \u201cequity\u201d starting in 2020, and that trend hasn\u2019t stopped: At the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art, the world\u2019s biggest contemporary art museum, a February show highlighted artists with grade-school skills and insights but DEI-approved identities.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Behind this madness is the left\u2019s long march through academia, washed through the vapidity of the top ranks of the high-culture-nonprofit world.<\/p>\n<p>The public needs to take these institutions back from the lunatics who\u2019ve colonized them.<\/p>\n<p>Congress needs to make it clear that the purpose of taxpayer-funded museums is to educate, not to indoctrinate, and that admins and staff who refuse to follow that basic principle will face fiscal and professional consequences.<\/p>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<p>A wider DOGE-style audit of just where tax dollars end up at museums across the country is very much in order as well.<\/p>\n<p>Crucially, all this might begin to address another civic crisis \u2014 the total collapse of pride in country among independents and Democrats, one of the biggest casualties of the Great Awokening and clearly driven by changes in pedagogy.<\/p>\n<p>Museums are one important index of a nation\u2019s health.
