                                        {"id":4698,"date":"2026-07-17T11:39:30","date_gmt":"2026-07-17T11:39:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/metrotransitreview.com\/?p=4698"},"modified":"2026-07-17T11:39:30","modified_gmt":"2026-07-17T11:39:30","slug":"exclusive-fifa-sued-for-deceptive-world-cup-ticket-sales-as-fat-cats-and-well-connected-hoard-vip-seats","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/metrotransitreview.com\/?p=4698","title":{"rendered":"Exclusive | FIFA sued for \u2018deceptive&#8217; World Cup ticket sales as fat cats and well-connected hoard VIP seats"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p>FIFA allegedly gave regular fans the idea they had a chance to sit by the pitch when they shelled out for premium World Cup tickets \u2014 but soccer\u2019s global governing body secretly locked them out of the running, instead allocating all the best seats to corporate bigwigs and VIPs, according to a bombshell lawsuit reviewed by The Post.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/metrotransitreview.com\/?p=4696\">NYC\u2019s business leaders are in denial about crime in the Big Apple<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The suit, filed as a class action earlier this month in Washington, DC, against FIFA\u2019s US subsidiary, accuses the organizers of \u201cdeceptive trade practices\u201d over its coveted \u201cCategory 1\u201d tickets for this summer\u2019s World Cup.<\/p>\n<p>According to the complaint filed on July 2, FIFA gave fans the misimpression they had a shot at primo seats near the midfield sideline by including them in a wide area marked \u201cCategory 1\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Since customers could only buy tickets by category \u2014 and not for specific seats \u2014 fans surmised they had a shot at ending up with the best spots once the tickets were actually doled out, the suit says.<\/p>\n<p>But the process was effectively rigged because FIFA had already allocated the best Category 1 seats to VIPs as part of wallet-busting \u201chospitality packages\u201d that could cost tens of thousands of dollars per person, the suit alleges.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe fact that FIFA appears to have not made any of the sideline tickets available to people who bought Cat 1 is scandalous,\u201d fumes one anonymous fan quoted in the suit.<\/p>\n<p>Another fan adds: \u201cI feel like FIFA intentionally misled us when they provided us with that seating chart, making us think that we had a possibility of sitting beside the pitch, when in actuality that was never possible in the first place.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The plaintiff, Vera Feinhaus of Washington, DC., says she paid $1,680 for two Category 1 tickets for a July 4 knockout match in Philadelphia, relying on FIFA\u2019s seating chart.<\/p>\n<p>When seat assignments dropped in March, she was relegated to an undesirable location near the stadium\u2019s corners, her complaint says.<\/p>\n<p>The suit is seeking punitive damages and demanding FIFA cough up at least $1,500 per violation for every fan who bought a Category 1 ticket while in Washington, DC.<\/p>\n<p>The lawsuit represents just the latest potential red card for FIFA over a US ticketing rollout that has left regular Joes scrambling for expensive resale seats.<\/p>\n<p>The deceptive practices alleged in Feinhaus\u2019 complaint mirror The Post\u2019s recent expose on Atlanta\u2019s Mercedes-Benz Stadium, which revealed how six-figure VIP hospitality suites were quietly shopped to wealthy elites\u00a0and insiders long before general public sales even opened.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/metrotransitreview.com\/?p=4694\">Fugitive featured on \u2018America\u2019s Most Wanted\u2019 captured off New York coast  after 20 years on the run<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the attorneys general of New York and New Jersey have slapped FIFA with a subpoena over its inflated prices and seat-switching tactics.<\/p>\n<p>They are zeroing in on the July 19 final at MetLife Stadium, where a group of seats were once on sale for $2 million a pop under the tournament\u2019s dynamic pricing model.<\/p>\n<p>Soccer fans wanting to attend Sunday\u2019s match between Spain and Argentina will need deep pockets. Tickets were sale at the time of writing for around $7,700 to $112,000 across major US platforms.<\/p>\n<p>President Trump, who helped secure the 2026 tournament for North America, ripped the exorbitant prices in an exclusive interview with The Post on May 7.<\/p>\n<p>Reacting to news that tickets to watch the US men\u2019s national team open against Paraguay in Los Angeles cost upwards of $1,000, the commander-in-chief didn\u2019t mince his words.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI didn\u2019t know that number,\u201d Trump said in a brief telephone interview. \u201cI would certainly like to be there, but I wouldn\u2019t pay it either, to be honest with you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He warned that the sky-high costs are pricing out the very fans who make it the beautiful game.<\/p>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cIf people from Queens and Brooklyn and all of the people that love Donald Trump can\u2019t go, I would be disappointed,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>The Post has approached FIFA for comment.
