Jim Parsons had the career millions dream about, but the \u201cBig Bang Theory\u201d star said the success came with a steep personal price.<\/p>\n

At the height of his fame, Parsons wasn\u2019t celebrating his success.<\/p>\n

Instead, the\u00a0Emmy-winning actor\u00a0said he was overwhelmed by obsessive habits that left him \u201cstressed\u201d and \u201cmiserable.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI look back now and realize that there were many ways, at some of the best moments of my life, I was miserable,\u201d Parsons said during an appearance on \u201cAll Out with Jon Dean.\u201d \u201cI was not happy. I was stressed.<\/p>\n

\u201cI felt that there was so many plates I was supposed to be keeping in the air and that the success and the good things of life that were happening were only due to this overworking \u2026 discipline and whatever,\u201d he continued. \u201cAnd maybe to a degree that was true. I don\u2019t know.\u201d<\/p>\n

Although Parsons acknowledged his intense discipline may have contributed to his success, he said the constant pressure he placed on himself wasn\u2019t worth the emotional toll.<\/p>\n

\u201cI can\u2019t say, because that\u2019s how I was,\u201d he added. \u201cBut I wouldn\u2019t do that again and for any amount of money \u2026 just because it was stressful and miserable at times. I made myself miserable.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cFrom your own work ethic?\u201d host Jon Dean asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf you want to call it that,\u201d Parsons said. \u201cIt translated in part into a work ethic, but it was really just obsessive behavior basically.\u201d<\/p>\n

Parsons said the perfectionism that helped propel his career also trapped him in a cycle of obsessive behavior he now realizes wasn\u2019t necessary.<\/p>\n

\u201cYes, I was disciplined. Yes, I had a good work ethic, but a lot of it was because it was kind of OCD in nature,\u201d he noted.<\/p>\n

\u201cI had a list of things basically in my head that I had to get done in order to be comfortable and know that I could do my job right, which I don\u2019t think was true.\u201d<\/p>\n

The actor said his obsessive routine caused him to miss out on \u201ctons of life\u201d that didn\u2019t fit into the structure he had built for himself. Even now, Parsons admitted he doesn\u2019t know whether he could have found a better balance.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t honestly know,\u201d he told Dean. \u201cIn the same way, I can\u2019t go back. I don\u2019t know that I would be where I \u2013 well, I wouldn\u2019t be where I am right now if I hadn\u2019t had that time of life.<\/p>\n

\n<\/div>\n

\u201cAnd the somewhat self-tortured nature of it was part of it,\u201d he added. \u201cSo, I don\u2019t know what to tell people. \u2026 Like, I don\u2019t know how much of that is necessary.\u201d<\/p>\n

Parsons rose from stage work and small television roles to become one of Hollywood\u2019s most recognizable sitcom stars after landing the role of Dr. Sheldon Cooper on CBS\u2019s \u201cThe Big Bang Theory\u201d in 2007.<\/p>\n

His performance on the show earned him four Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series and\u00a0a Golden Globe.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Big Bang Theory\u201d ran for 12 seasons, from 2007 to 2019, and became one of the most successful sitcoms in TV history.<\/p>\n

Parsons starred alongside Johnny Galecki,\u00a0Kaley Cuoco, Simon Helberg, Kunal Nayyar, Mayim Bialik and Melissa Rauch in the sitcom.<\/p>\n

He is also known for his roles in \u201cYoung Sheldon,\u201d \u201cThe Normal Heart,\u201d \u201cHidden Figures\u201d and \u201cThe Boys in the Band.\u201d<\/p>\n
