Former Vice President Kamala Harris on Tuesday condemned the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents involved in the fatal shooting of a Colombian national who allegedly tried to run them over \u2013 demanding that they \u201cbe held accountable.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cJoan Sebastian Guerrero should still be alive,\u201d Harris wrote on X, referring to the 26-year-old man the Department of Homeland Security described as an \u201cillegal alien\u201d who \u201cattempted to flee the scene\u201d of an ICE operation in Maine on Monday.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is the second time in a week that ICE agents have killed someone who \u2014 by their own admission \u2014 was not the subject of their operation,\u201d Harris continued. \u201cNow Sebastian is dead, his killing witnessed by his three-year-old daughter wearing her Bluey pajamas.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThis cannot be acceptable in America.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

The failed former Democratic nominee for president called for an \u201cimmediate, independent, and transparent investigation\u201d into Guerrero\u2019s shooting death.\u00a0 <\/p>\n

\u201cAnyone responsible for wrongdoing must be held accountable,\u201d she demanded.\u00a0<\/p>\n

ICE officers in Biddeford, Maine, had been surveilling the last known address of an illegal migrant with a deportation order on Monday morning when the chaos unfolded, according to DHS.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Guerrero apparently fled the home in a vehicle and refused to stop for federal officers, who gave chase, according to DHS.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe vehicle attempted to flee the scene and, fearing for public safety, an officer discharged his weapon,\u201d DHS said in a statement. \u201cThe driver of the vehicle was struck, and emergency services were immediately contacted. He passed away from his injuries.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lucas Scott, an 18-year-old witness, said officers in green vests surrounded the car and drew their weapons at the driver, who appeared to drive directly at them.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cThe car was put into drive and was trying to hit the ICE officer,\u201d Scott told the Portland Press Herald, adding that an agent fired roughly four shots in response.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Guerrero was authorized to work in the US and had been issued a Social Security number, according to Presente! Maine, a Portland-based aid organization.<\/p>\n

The DHS Inspector General will investigate the shooting, the agency said.<\/p>\n

Last week, Harris called out ICE on X over another deadly shooting involving the agency in Houston.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cLorenzo Salgado Araujo\u2019s family called him \u2018El mundo entero\u2019 \u2014 the whole world,\u201d Harris said of the victim, whom DHS claims tried to ram his car into ICE officers during a traffic stop.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Araujo was \u201cshot and killed by ICE agents on his way to work,\u201d Harris continued, adding that she is \u201doutraged by the horrific and cruel actions of ICE under the Trump Administration.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cDoug and my prayers are with Lorenzo\u2019s wife, his three sons, and all those who loved and knew him,\u201d the potential 2028 Democratic presidential candidate said. \u201cI join his son Ronaldo in calling for an immediate, independent, and transparent investigation.\u201d<\/p>\n
