CNN pundit Scott Jennings ripped into fellow conservative panelist Caroline Sunshine during a fiery on-air clash over Iran after she admitted she hadn\u2019t heard the US has been engaged in conflict with the regime for nearly five decades. <\/p>\n

The heated exchange took place on Thursday\u2019s \u201cCNN NewsNight,\u201d hosted by Abby Phillip, where guests sparred over whether Congress should impose additional \u201cguardrails\u201d on President Trump\u2019s authority to launch military action against Iran. <\/p>\n

Jennings, who argued against new restrictions, dismissed calls for greater congressional oversight, saying the US couldn\u2019t afford to be \u201call rainbows and unicorns with the Iranians,\u201d adding that \u201cthey\u2019ve been at war with us for 47 years.\u201d<\/p>\n

For emphasis, he repeated: \u201cForty-seven years! Forty-seven years!\u201d<\/p>\n

Sunshine, a former Trump campaign staffer, interrupted Jennings to say: \u201cForty-seven years? Why did I learn about \u2026 I\u2019m sorry, the first time I\u2019ve heard about the 47-year Iran war was like this year.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m sorry you don\u2019t read much,\u201d Jennings replied with a laugh. \u201cDid you just start following the news this year?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe don\u2019t teach about the 47-year war with Iran in school,\u201d Sunshine said. \u201cLike, it\u2019s insulting to actual conflicts that we\u2019ve been involved in.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jennings hit back: \u201cIt\u2019s insulting? It\u2019s insulting to your intelligence that you have no idea what the Iranians have done!\u201d<\/p>\n

The duo spoke over one another before Sunshine said: \u201cHow many Americans have they killed on US soil in the 47 years we\u2019ve been in the war?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThey\u2019ve killed thousands of Americans \u2014 they have maimed American soldiers,\u201d Jennings replied.<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah, which is all wrong,\u201d Sunshine said. \u201cWhy have our soldiers been over there?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThey\u2019ve attacked American allies,\u201d Jennings continued. \u201cAnd they have been at war with the West ever since this regime came to power, and it is their intention to build a nuclear weapon and use it on us and use it on Israel and use it on the West. That is their intention and it is their stated intention.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sunshine countered: \u201cThey intend to just keep using the Strait of Hormuz. They have now learned that they can behave like a nuclear power without ever needing to be one.\u201d<\/p>\n

She then questioned the limits of Trump\u2019s ongoing campaign, saying: \u201cBut OK, so like, if we\u2019re going to keep going, and what\u2019s your number? Like, how many US troops are you willing to expend to achieve your objectives and what amount of money? Because like, we\u2019re not having that conversation and we need to because we\u2019ve already spent $300 million, we\u2019ve already lost \u2013\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat amount of money am I willing to spend to keep the American people safe from the worst regime in the world? A fair amount,\u201d Jennings said.<\/p>\n

\n<\/div>\n

Sunshine replied: \u201cOK. Iran, nobody is like, first of all, Iran does not have a nuclear weapon. They don\u2019t want a nuclear weapon.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThey don\u2019t?\u201d Jennings said mockingly.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd nobody is firing a nuke at a country that has 5,000 of them. Do you understand?\u201d Sunshine added.<\/p>\n

\u201cA, they do want a nuclear weapon, and B, you\u2019re acting like they\u2019re some sort of a rational actor here,\u201d Jennings hit back. \u201cThey\u2019re irrational people. It\u2019s pretty apparent.\u201d<\/p>\n
