sure it will be the interest of them \u2014 of the US that Israel will join on this \u2014 but, you know, we realize that we need to stretch our muscles.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re willing to do it again, if needed,\u201d the person added.<\/p>\n<p>Trump authorized a second day of strikes on Iran on Wednesday hours after unleashing a torrent of fiery criticism at the Islamist regime \u2013 calling Iran\u2019s leadership \u201cscum,\u201d \u201cevil,\u201d \u201cloco,\u201d and \u201csick people\u201d at the annual NATO summit.<\/p>\n<p>Roughly 90 targets were struck that evening \u2014 up from about 80 on Tuesday \u2014 with a target list including missile and drone launch sites, Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps command sites, air defense and radar locations and logistics infrastructure such as railways.<\/p>\n<p>Israel joined the US in launching the war on Feb. 28 \u2014 which wiped out Iran\u2019s ruling leadership and hit critical targets \u2014 but Trump and Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu had been at odds over when and how to stop the fighting that also expanded to Lebanon.<\/p>\n<p>Israel so far has not joined in, but Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz told reporters on Thursday that the Israel Defense Force is \u201cprepared to strike Iran for the third time \u2013 and with greater force than before\u201d if warranted.<\/p>\n<p>Nitsana Leitner, founder of the prominent Israel Law Center and connected to sources in the Israeli government, echoed that if the United States calls on Israel to stand with it against the Iranian regime, \u201cIsrael will be there \u2014 not with words, but with action and real military cooperation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile some European allies and high-maintenance treaty alliances respond to Tehran\u2019s evil with empty declarations, Israel has always understood that extremist threats like Iran must be confronted and neutralized, not simply condemned,\u201d she said. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cEurope\u2019s cowardly governments appear far more outraged and combative over Trump\u2019s phone call to FIFA than by the IRGC attacking civilian ships in the Strait of Hormuz and raining missiles on neighboring countries,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n<p>Still, the Jerusalem source noted Israel is \u201cnot eager to go back to the day when people have to go to shelters,\u201d referencing the early days of the war that saw Tehran regularly lobbing missiles and drones indiscriminately at the Jewish state.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt the same time, you know, we don\u2019t want to ignore what\u2019s happening in Iran,\u201d the source said in comments Wednesday before the latest US airstrikes on Iran. \u201cSo if that will be the price we\u2019ll have to pay, we will bear with that situation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The comments came after Trump told reporters at the NATO Summit in Ankara that his opinion on the Iranians with whom the US has been negotiating had changed dramatically after he \u201cgot to know them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey\u2019re cuckoo, there\u2019s something wrong with those people,\u201d Trump said, after Iran attacked three commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz in violation of the James in free agency<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Netanyahu has not yet publicly commented about the new airstrikes, but has long warned Iran cannot be trusted \u2014 and last month declared that Israel will strike Iran \u201cwhenever necessary.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIsrael has every right to self-defense, and we will exercise that right whenever necessary,\u201d he said in a statement aired on Israeli television June 8.\u00a0\u201cI say this to you just as I say it, with appreciation and respect, in my positive conversations with my friend, President Trump.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>For now, Israeli intelligence assesses that Iran \u201chas no interest in drawing Israel into the conflict\u201d \u2014 which is the reason Tehran hasn\u2019t targeted the Jewish state in this volley of strikes, the Jerusalem Post reported Thursday, citing two Israeli officials.<\/p>\n<p>Netanyahu and Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz met for a special security consultation Wednesday night as Trump escalated his rhetoric against Tehran, an Israeli official said, without providing details.<\/p>\n<p>The IDF is also on high alert, and its intelligence units are continuously updating target lists and maintaining \u201cclose operational coordination\u201d with the US military, Israel\u2019s i24 News reported Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>The Jewish state was long incredulous about the Iranian regime\u2019s motivations in US negotiations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe were very skeptical from the beginning about the Iranians\u2019 intentions, but, you know, we respect President Trump\u2019s efforts,\u201d a Jerusalem source told The Post Wednesday. \u201cAnd I think now everyone realizes that the Iranians are playing a game.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That skepticism had led to tense \u2014 and sometimes profanity-laced \u2014 phone calls between Trump and Netanyahu as Washington pursued the now-nixed US-Iran memorandum of understanding.<\/p>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Most of Netanyahu\u2019s concerns during those calls involved addressing Iran\u2019s ballistic missile threat, which was left out of the US-Iran memorandum of understanding despite it being an early Trump talking point, sources familiar with the calls told The Post.<\/p>\n<p>While Trump had previously called the remnants of the regime now in power more \u201crational\u201d than their predecessors, Israeli sources said their actions are far more sinister.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think you have to look at the regime according to the action of the regime, and basically, when you look at the action of the regime, you don\u2019t see much change,\u201d one source said. \u201cAnd that\u2019s the important lesson that the president will have to see \u2014 that\u2019s what they\u2019re actually doing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a
