WASHINGTON \u2014\u00a0How did they nazi<\/em> this coming?<\/p>\n

Top Democrats and prominent lefties are grappling with credibility concerns over their embrace of alleged predator Graham Platner in his Maine Senate bid, despite glaring warning signs.<\/p>\n

For months, ultra-progressives and Dems who wanted to placate the base stood by Platner as scandal after scandal broke against him \u2014 downplaying the Nazi tattoo, the offensive Reddit posts, the alleged cheating on his wife, and even the abuse accusations that emerged against him last month.<\/p>\n

But on Monday, his supporters finally breaking point after ex-girlfriend Jenny Racicot went public with rape accusations against him revolving around an alleged home intrusion roughly five years ago.<\/p>\n

Platner denies the claims and is currently debating whether the heed the call of his former supporters and drop out.<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s a look at some of the most dramatic reversals. <\/p>\n

Elizabeth Warren: \u2018My kind of man\u2019<\/h2>\n

Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) threw her weight behind Platner, praising him during a rally in April, proclaiming he was \u201cmy kind of man.\u201d<\/p>\n

She added: \u201cBecause that is a man who not only has the values, but a man who believes in accountability. And we need a little accountability coming out of Washington right now.\u201d<\/p>\n

She continued to back him through the end of June and dismiss his scandals, telling WCVB-TV: \u201cHe is not proud of who he was, and he has taken responsibility.\u201d<\/p>\n

Platner reportedly privately assured her last month that he didn\u2019t have any more skeletons in his closet. After the rape accusations emerged on Monday, Warren finally dropped him.<\/p>\n

\u201cNow more than ever, we need leaders in Washington who reflect our values. There can be no tolerance for sexual assault,\u201d she said in a statement calling on him to step aside.<\/p>\n

Ro Khanna: \u2018Some dumb thing he said\u2019<\/h2>\n

Perhaps Platner\u2019s most notorious backer throughout the scandal cascade was Rep. Ro Khanna (D-Calif.), who publicly admonished the \u201cestablishment\u201d for being uneasy about the lecherous oyster farmer.<\/p>\n

\u201cOne of the things that drives me crazy is our inability to stand by progressive Democrats, or Democrats for that matter, because of some dumb thing or inaccurate thing they may have said in their past,\u201d Khanna told \u201cBreaking Points\u201d last month. <\/p>\n

Khanna also blasted Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer as \u201cvery weak\u201d for not wanting to back Platner. <\/p>\n

Right after the bombshell New York Times piece broke detailing accusations that Platner was abusive towards Lyndsey Fifield and toxic towards other past dates, Khanna stood by him, flying out to Maine the very next day to stump with Platner.<\/p>\n

Bafflingly, Khanna insisted that \u201cI do believe those women\u201d \u2014 despite standing by Platner\u2019s denials. <\/p>\n

Then, on Monday, after the rape accusations dropped, Khanna declared that he \u201cshould drop out of the race. I am withdrawing my endorsement.\u201d<\/p>\n

Bernie Sanders: \u2018Nobody\u2019s perfect\u2019<\/h2>\n

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) was one of Platner\u2019s earliest backers, endorsing him in August of last year, shortly after the oyster farmer launched his campaign. <\/p>\n

After the first abuse accusations emerged, Sanders stood by Platner and complained to reporters that the billionaires are \u201cspending so much money trying to defeat this guy\u201d because \u201che\u2019s going to stand up to the oligarchs.\u201d<\/p>\n

While defending Platner, Sanders stressed that \u201cthere are no saints in the United States Senate\u201d and that \u201cnobody is perfect.\u201d<\/p>\n

On Tuesday, some 21 hours after the rape accusations emerged, Sanders relented and pulled his support for Platner, urging him to step aside.<\/p>\n

Ruben Gallego<\/strong>: \u2018Authentic man\u2019<\/h2>\n

Sen. Ruben Gallego (D-Ariz.) backed Platner, touting him as \u201can authentic man.\u201d Gallego was the second senator to endorse the oyster farmer.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s not anti-semitic,\u201d the possible 2028 presidential contender told the Bulwark. \u201cAnd, more importantly, we need to win elections.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

On Monday, Gallego reversed course, saying: \u201cThe allegations against Graham Platner are troubling and deeply serious. I am rescinding my endorsement.\u201d<\/p>\n

Chris Van Hollen<\/strong>: \u2018went through a really rough period\u2019<\/h2>\n

Another progressive darling who has seen his standing with the far left rise over recent years, Sen. Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.), defended Platner over various controversies, including the Nazi tattoo and Reddit comments. suggesting women who get raped while drunk should claiming he \u201cwent through a really rough period.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are going to win Maine and Graham Platner is the candidate in that race who is fighting for working people,\u201d he said in June.<\/p>\n

He also defended Platner\u2019s Nazi tattoo, saying in April \u201che went through a really rough period.\u201d<\/p>\n

Van Hollen finally reversed course on Monday, saying: \u201cThese allegations are serious and cannot be ignored. Graham Platner should step aside.\u201d<\/p>\n

New York Sens. Chuck Schumer & Kirsten Gillibrand:\u00a0<\/strong>\u2018Maine will elect Graham Platner\u2019<\/h2>\n

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee Chair Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) had both backed Maine Gov. Janet Mills (D) in the primary, but were coy about Platner after it became clear he would win the primary.<\/p>\n
